Unless they quickly can find a trading partner, the Dodgers are expected to release outfielder Andruw Jones today. MLB.com reports L.A. had trade discussions about Jones with two teams earlier this week, but couldn't finalize a deal.
Jones is signed through the 2009 season, but he agreed to defer $21.1 million of his remaining salary if the team would trade or release him by January 15. Barring a trade, Jones soon will become a free agent. In the first season of a two-year deal with Los Angeles, Jones hit .158 with three homers and 14 RBIs in 75 games in 2008. He battled a knee injury and butted heads with the team about his conditioning (or lack thereof).
