I think he's the better pitcher, but not by enough to give the Cubs the overall benefit of the doubt in this game. I think the Pirates square the series today. Cubs dodged a lot of bullets in Game 1.

It never really has been in the past -- especially early in the season. You never know though. Sometimes it's more of an indication of whether to play the over or under vs. which side a book is leaning.

Why is Maholm - 135 against Halladay. Is he coming of surgery or something

His velocity is down ever since that surgery last year. He got rocked his last 7, 8 starts and was rocked in spring training. Braves hitters are also averaging over .300 against him lifetime and he hasn't had any luck lately in his last 4-5 starts against them. Have to trust Maholm over Halladay as crazy as it sounds I think. Wonder what line would be if this game was at Philly? Last year probably be -200 this year maybe -130???

Halladay had a disappointing season last year, whereas Maholm was very solid. And the spring training stats others mentioned gives the impression that the offseason did little to improve Halladay. And market price is often a reflection on how a starting pitcher is perceived.

Twins are so anemic offensively. Still, I'll take my chances that they can at least find a way to tie it with Coke closing the game. They had a RISP in the 8th and failed though. Again. Twins and Astros have Triple-A level lineups.
