In his mind he is thinking i got to be better than i was in my last start and at the same time he thinks, well i was pretty much at my best against the reds and that probabley
isnt good enough. he is doubting himself already and not to mention he already knows st.vlouis is much more fearful to a pitcher than his bats, and that means he knows carp is feeling more confident than himself.
