Polymarket is one of the most trusted and popular prediction market brands in the world, but how does it compare to FanDuel Predicts, a relatively new prediction market platform from a trusted brand? After hours of testing both platforms, I explain who has the edge when it comes to Polymarket vs. FanDuel Predicts, focusing on available markets, fee structures, promos, and more.

FanDuel Predicts vs. Polymarket: Key takeaways

After more than 10 hours using both FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket, I've compiled a table highlighting key features of each platform. While FanDuel Predicts may come from the more established brand, Polymarket has made a much bigger footprint in the prediction market space, with more markets and better crypto support.

Here's how the two platforms stack up against one another:

The FanDuel Predicts promo code lands you $25 without depositing, while the Polymarket promo code SBR will net you $20 after a $10 deposit. No trading is required to max out either bonus.

Markets

Polymarket has more available markets, especially when it comes to niche sports like darts, table tennis, and chess. However, when it comes to major sports, there isn't much separating these two platforms.

The only real downside of FanDuel Predicts is that sports markets are only available in 18 states. Therefore, if you're located in the majority of states, you'll only have access to non-sports markets like pop culture, finance, and tech.

Fees

When it comes to fees, Polymarket has the edge. In fact, Polymarkets's fee structure is the best in the industry. You'll pay between $0.05 and $1.25 per 100 contracts depending on the price of the contracts you purchased.

The fee structure at FanDuel Predicts is easy to understand, but it's not very favorable. Fees are calculated at 2% of the total payout you would receive from every purchase.

Payment options

When it comes to payment options, the platform you'll prefer comes down to what payment types you value. While FanDuel Predicts has plenty of great fiat options available, it doesn't support crypto. Meanwhile, Polymarket supports over 20 cryptocurrencies, but doesn't offer any fiat withdrawal options.

Customer experience

The FanDuel Predicts app is very similar to FanDuel Sportsbook. The app is well-organized, and you won't have any trouble looking for the market you wish to trade. Being able to enable and disable price tolerance is also a major plus, as it allows you to choose whether you want to allow slippage or not.

The Polymarket app continues to improve. It's much easier to navigate now than it was just a few months ago. Whenever I use it, I don't waste any time searching for events or markets. And the app is very good about informing users of upcoming and trending events.

FanDuel Predicts vs. Polymarket: Pros & cons

Polymarket and FanDuel Predicts are both great platforms, but that doesn't mean that there aren't specific strengths and weaknesses of each. Below, I highlight some of the most important pros and cons of each platform.

Platform βœ… Pros ❌ Cons
πŸ”₯ FanDuel Predicts No deposit welcome bonus, available in all 50 states Limited payment methods, crypto transactions aren't supported, sports markets are limited to just 18 states
πŸ’² Polymarket Fee-free for maker orders, no withdrawal fees, plenty of market coverage for sports and beyond in 49 of 50 states Withdrawals limited to just crypto

What are prediction markets?

Prediction market platforms are federally regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), allowing them to operate in most US states. They are a great alternative to traditional sportsbooks, thanks to their availability and a plethora of markets related to sports, pop culture, finance, and more.

When using a prediction market platform, users will purchases contracts for either Yes or No. Liquidity is key, as all trades are matched directly against other users. There is no "house."

FanDuel Predicts vs. Polymarket: Market coverage

When it comes to market coverage, there isn't much of a difference between FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket. Both cover the major leagues, such as the MLB, NFL, NHL, and NBA, and you'll also find college sports, golf, tennis, and motorsports.

When it comes to non-sports markets, both have plenty of options for politics, crypto, economics, and finance. However, Polymarket pulls away slightly by offering mentions and weather-related markets.

What I've really noticed is that as prediction market platforms become more widely available, the advantage that apps like Polymarket and Kalshi had over others is disappearing when it comes to available markets. Still, I'd give Polymarket the slight edge in this category at this time.

All that said, if you're a football fan, both platforms are among the best NFL prediction market sites.

βœ”οΈ Platform πŸ… Sports Markets πŸ—³οΈ Non-Sports Markets
πŸ”₯ FanDuel Predicts MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, college football, soccer, golf, WNBA, tennis, F1, NASCAR, esports Commodities, economics indicators, crypto, politics, finance
πŸ’² Polymarket MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, college football, soccer, golf, WNBA, tennis, F1, NASCAR, darts, chess, table tennis Politics, economics, crypto, tech, weather, mentions, finance, economy

FanDuel Predicts vs. Polymarket: Fees and market pricing

Understanding fees at Polymarket is complicated, but at the end of the day, the platform has one of the best fee structures of any prediction market app. The formula that Polymarket uses is 0.05 Γ— C Γ— p Γ— (1 βˆ’ p).

To put it simply, this is a midpoint-weighted mode, meaning that trades executed on markets closer to 50% will cost more. The closer a contract price is to $0.99 or $0.01, the cheaper it will be. This means that fees at Polymarket range from $0.05 to $1.25 per 100 contracts.

At FanDuel Predicts, fees are much easier to understand. You will simply pay a $0.02 fee per $1 of your potential payout.

For example, let's say that you want to purchase 100 contracts priced at $0.60 each. This means that your initial investment would be $60, and you'd be eligible to earn $40 worth of profits. This means that your total payout would be $100. With fees set at $0.02 per $1 of potential payout, you'd end up paying $2 worth of fees.

This same trade on Polymarket would only incur $1.20 worth of fees. It's clear that while Polymarket is more complicated, it ultimately charges lower fees than FanDuel Predicts.

Market pricing

Market pricing means that users are the ones determining where prices land for specific markets. In other words, percentages and prices fluctuate in real-time based on sentiment from traders. This is different than the model that traditional sportsbooks use. At sportsbooks, oddsmakers determine prices, then adjust them as they see fit.

Because of market pricing, prices at Polymarket and FanDuel Predicts tend to fluctuate more significantly than at traditional sportsbooks. This can be both good and bad. Once you get the hang of the system, you could use it to your advantage, purchasing contracts at the right time and earning high payouts either from settlements or early cashouts.

FanDuel Predicts vs. Polymarket: User experience and important features

The user experience at both FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket is excellent. If you're already familiar with the FanDuel Sportsbook app, then FanDuel Predicts will feel very familiar. And even if you've hardly ever used prediction market platforms, the learning curve at Polymarket is not steep at all.

Polymarket

To put it simply, the fee structure at Polymarket is simply astounding. The most you'll ever pay in fees for 100 contracts is $1.25, which is significantly less than you'll pay at FanDuel Predicts.

If you're into crypto, then Polymarket is the platform for you, as all withdrawals must be made via cryptocurrencies. The platform accepts over 20 cryptocurrencies.

Polymarket's app has significantly improved in recent months, and now I believe it is one of the best in the industry. Main events cycle through the homepage, and there is even a section dedicated to trending games and elections. Finding the event you want is simple with the search function, and checking your portfolio for open trades, results, and more is as easy as tapping the icon at the bottom of the homepage.

FanDuel Predicts

The user experience at FanDuel Predicts is exactly what you'd expect from a company that also created one of the best sportsbooks apps on the market. The app is very easy to navigate, with categories for available markets listed at the top. You'll also find a Combo Builder tab and a Live tab.

What I love about the FanDuel Predicts app is that it does a great job of explaining key features. For example, when you tap Combo Builder, a tutorial is offered so you know exactly what you're doing.

Another defining feature is price tolerance. You can choose to either enable or disable price tolerance. If you enable it, then you agree to accept slippage during the checkout process. For those who are unfamiliar, slippage is when the price changes while you're attempting to trade.

Personally, I keep price tolerance disabled, but that's only because I've been burned badly before by high slippage. If you're okay with getting slightly worse prices every now and then, this is a great feature.

Important feature differences

Polymarket's advantages:

  • Phenomenal fee structure
  • Crypto compatibility
  • More niche sports market coverage

FanDuel Predicts’ advantages:

  • Easier transition for those already familiar with FanDuel Sportsbook
  • Straightforward fee structure
  • Better organized app
  • More withdrawal options

FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket are both legally regulated by the CFTC. This means that they operate under federal oversight and are not subjected to state laws. That said, some states have fought against prediction market platforms, and some have even been successful in shutting them down.

At this time, FanDuel Predicts is available in all states + DC, while Polymarket is available in all states except for Nevada.

Who should use FanDuel Predicts or Polymarket?

FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket are great for all kinds of users. If you're in a state where sports betting is illegal, then prediction market platforms provide a great alternative. But even if sportsbooks are legal in your state, you may want to use FanDuel Predicts or Polymarket for better pricing or other markets, such as pop culture, finance, crypto, and more.

Both platforms are user-friendly. Polymarket is particularly friendly to those who are avid crypto users.

Financial risks and responsible trading

While trading prediction markets is different than betting at a sportsbook, the fact remains that you can still lose money if results don't go your way. Because of this, it's important to only deposit what you can afford to lose.

Many platforms, including FanDuel Predicts and Polymarket, have responsible gaming tools that allow traders to set restrictions or take breaks when needed. If your prediction market usage has become overwhelming, please consult a national helpline at 1-800-MYRESET or visit the NCPG website
