Best NHL Prop Picks, Predictions for Tuesday's Games

Want to add some prop plays to increase excitement for Tuesday's NHL action? Scott Cullen shares four of his favorite NHL player props for Tuesday's games using the latest NHL odds. 

The early targets are shot props, areas in which Matthew Tkachuk and Martin Necas have delivered excellent results this season.

I'll also look to Rickard Rakell to get back in the goal column and to a Coyotes defenseman, Juuso Valimaki, to continue his red-hot point run.

NHL Player Props

Matthew Tkachuk Over 3.5 shots on goal vs. Golden Knights (-125) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

He's known as much for his ability to get under the skin of his opponents, but Tkachuk is wildly productive, especially on home ice. He's averaging 4.32 shots per game in Sunrise and has recorded at least four shots in 18 of 28 home games.

The Golden Knights rank 10th in shots against per 60 minutes, which makes them better than average, but not strong enough to contain Tkachuk. I would have him near -200 for this shot prop based on his strong track record on home ice.

DraftKings offers the best price on the board for Tkachuk to go Over 3.5 shots, at -125, followed closely by FanDuel (-128), BetMGM (-133), and PointsBet (-133).

Martin Necas Over 2.5 shots on goal vs. Canadiens (-128) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Necas has been a steady source of points for the Hurricanes – and he's a reliable shot generator, too. He has recorded at least three shots on goal in 22 of 30 road games and faces a Montreal Canadiens team that ranks 24th in shot against per 60 minutes on home ice.

I have Necas at more than two-to-one to cover his shot prop.

BetMGM has the top price among our best sportsbooks, with Necas Over 2.5 shots on goal coming in at -128. PointsBet (-135), DraftKings (-140), and FanDuel (-144) are all lagging behind, so there is real incentive to play this one at BetMGM.

Rickard Rakell anytime goal vs. Blue Jackets (+160) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Although he has not scored a goal in the past eight games, Rakell has put 23 shots on target while averaging more than 20 minutes of ice time per game in that time.

He's back on Sidney Crosby's wing and playing on Pittsburgh's first power-play unit, so things are lining up for Rakell to get back on the scoresheet. 

It also helps that Rakell has a juicy matchup against a Blue Jackets team that ranks 29th in expected goals against and 27th in actual goals against on the road. My price for a Rakell anytime goal is +140.

DraftKings, BetMGM, and PointsBet all have a Rakell anytime goal priced at +160, which is better than what FanDuel (+152) is offering. Caesars has a Rakell goal priced at +129, which is not remotely competitive. 

Juuso Valimaki Over 0.5 points vs. Blues (+110) ⭐⭐⭐

Now that the Coyotes have traded Jakob Chychrun and Shayne Gostisbehere, Valimaki takes over as the defenseman on the No. 1 power play unit.

Valimaki has picked up 12 assists in his past 13 games and faces a Blues team that ranks 29th with a 3.77 goals against average on the road. At plus money, it is worth riding the hot hand in the desert.

Caesars is the best price among our top sportsbooks at +110, ahead of FanDuel (+106). DraftKings, BetMGM, and PointsBet are all at +105.
