This game can be one of the most interesting on the schedule in the final week of the preseason. Both teams are 2-0, and there is the possibility that we will see each team’s starting quarterback under center for at least part of the game.
Trey Lance didn’t see any action in Week 2 against the Minnesota Vikings, but Brock Purdy and Nate Sudfeld combined for 215 yards and one touchdown. Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price added 98 yards on the ground to add to the balanced attack.
Davis Mills played the entire first half against the Los Angeles Rams and was far from midseason form. He finished 10-17 for 96 yards and one touchdown, which came just before halftime. Kyle Allen took over after that, throwing for 71 yards and one touchdown. With numerous quarterbacks that have the potential to put up points for both teams, this could be a very entertaining game.

There has been a lot of line movement in this one. The 49ers opened as 2.5-point underdogs, but the number has moved 5.5 points in their favor since then. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan has shown that he can get the best out of whatever quarterback he has under center, and it seems bettors aren’t scared away by the fact that Lance may not play.
As for the total, the line opened at 37.5, which has since moved to 41.5, a drastic jump. On pregame.com, most are on the Under, but that is likely because of how quickly the line has gone up.

The 49ers were impressive against the Vikings in Week 2 of the preseason. However, the defense was going against Kellen Mond, who certainly looked overwhelmed for the majority of his playing time. Now, they will be tasked with potentially taking on Mills, who is looking to be the guy in Houston. Even if Mills doesn’t play much, Allen and Jeff Driskel have shown that they are more than competent when it is their time to shine.
The 49ers are more of a question mark in the final preseason game, as many believe Lance will at least touch the field. Yet, with the season right around the corner, there is no way that Shanahan is going to take a chance with his young starter, so if Lance plays, his time will be limited. Sudfeld and Purdy were good in Week 2, but taking the experience of the Texans’ backups seems like the right move in this one.

Over 41.5 (-110) ★★★★
This number just keeps going higher, but at 41.5, the Over is the right play. Both of these offenses have been playing well this preseason, and each has enough weapons that they should be able to have success against the second- and third-string defenses late in the game. Against the Rams, the Texans scored 17 points in the second half, which was played entirely without Mills. Look for something similar to happen this week.
The 49ers saved most of their scoring in Week 2 for the fourth quarter when they put up 11 points. The Texans’ defense should break earlier than that this week, giving San Francisco a chance to score in the 20s. Lance will likely be on the field, and even if that is just for one or two drives, that should be enough to get the 49ers a touchdown. Look for this one to end in the 24-21 range, as two solid preseason offenses get their final tune-up for the regular season.
