WrestleMania 40 matchups and analysis

Universal Championship odds: Cody Rhodes (-425) vs. Roman Reigns (+265)

This has quickly become one of the most volatile storylines on the road to WrestleMania. Rhodes has suffered several verbal and physical jabs in his quest to finish his story, each one increasing in its brutality. Over the last several weeks, he and his entire family have been insulted by both Reigns as well as The Rock.

The latest attack by The Bloodline left Rhodes sprawled out in the middle of the ring during the closing moments of Monday Night RAW. Earlier in the show, Seth Rollins had challenged both The Final Boss and The Tribal Chief to a match. The cousins opted to send Solo Sikoa instead in a Bloodline rules bout. That match was interrupted by The Rock and eventually encompassed everyone involved in the feud, including Rhodes. The night ended with The Rock continuing the punishment he started the week before with yet another custom weight belt.

We could very well have seen what's in store for Saturday night in the tag team match to determine the stipulations for the title match the following night. Reigns and The Rock would love nothing more than to give the champ a chance to retain his title in a no-holds-barred environment. Regardless, this is shaping up to be one of the all-time contests in WWE history.

World Heavyweight Championship odds: Drew McIntyre (-500) vs. Seth Rollins (+300)

Lost in the chaos of Cody Rhodes and his quest to finish his story is Seth Rollins and his quest to retain the World Heavyweight title. Rollins has given his support to The American Nightmare to help end The Bloodline. While the champ has been taking on all comers, McIntyre has been laser-focused on taking the title to clear it of any outside distractions.

Over the last several weeks, The Scottish Warrior has ended CM Punk’s run to WrestleMania and has taken every opportunity to remind Rollins that he has turned his back on the RAW brand and does not deserve to be a WWE champion.

The outcome of this match will be heavily influenced by what takes place during the tag team contest earlier in the weekend. Should Rollins and Rhodes find themselves on the wrong end of a beating, there may be nothing left for either of them to fight for a championship.

Women's Championship odds: Bayley (-700) vs. Iyo Sky (+400)

When Damage CTRL turned their backs on Bayley, it changed the course of the entire women’s division. After winning the Royal Rumble, it appeared the Role Model would choose to face Rhea Ripley and add another title to her team’s collection. However, after the betrayal, Bayley decided to go after her former ally Iyo Sky’s title and seek some revenge.

Over the last several weeks, Damage CTRL has terrorized the ladies of both brands as they always have. Lately, though, they have spent extra time harassing their former leader. This has led to an interesting alliance between Bayley, Naomi, and now, Bianca Belair.

It remains to be seen if her new friends will help Bayley return to the top of the women’s division. The odds certainly do indicate where the books stand on the matter. It makes sense to bring the former good girl gone bad back into the good graces of the WWE universe. This also may signal the end of her former creation’s control in the company.

Women's World Championship odds: Rhea Ripley (-500) vs. Becky Lynch (+300)

What started out as a simple title challenge has turned personal between these two powerhouses. Since winning the Elimination Chamber, Lynch has gone scorched earth on her way to her WrestleMania title match with Ripley. The Man has fought every woman in her path including a month-long tussle with Nia Jax.

The intensity has risen significantly as of late as a war of words has kicked things up a notch. During an in-ring address, Ripley made the mistake of bringing Lynch’s daughter into the feud. As intended, this provoked her opponent and the two traded blows.

The fisticuffs continued in an altercation between the two during Ripley’s appearance during the MMA Hour. It culminated in a scrap on Monday Night RAW that had to be broken up by several ring security officers.

Roman Reigns and The Rock (-1000) vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins (+550)

The Rock had every intention of giving the WWE the greatest match in history by taking on his cousin Roman Reigns. That contest was upended when Rhodes selected The Tribal Chief as his opponent at WrestleMania after winning the Royal Rumble. The Final Boss took that personally and set out to teach The American Nightmare a lesson on what happens when you interfere with family business.

This led to the declaration of a tag team match between The Rock and Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes and his unlikely ally and World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins. The outcome of the match will set the terms for the Universal Title match on Sunday. Should The Bloodline win, they get to do whatever they want the next day. If they lose, Rhodes and Reigns fight alone and unencumbered for the title.

Things have escalated over the last two weeks as The Rock has ramped up his violence in and out of the ring. Two weeks ago, The Final Boss ambushed Rhodes and tossed him into a tour bus enough to bloody the championship contender. The Rock then smeared that blood onto a belt emblazoned with “Mama Rhodes.” There is no doubt this match will get ugly fast and it seems the books view a family victory as a lock.

How to bet on WrestleMania 40

Unlike most sporting events, the scripted nature of the WWE offers some unique challenges to the books. On the one hand, much like football, baseball, basketball, etc., the fans don’t know the outcome of a match. However, those participating as well as those who wrote the storyline do.

Because you are betting on a predetermined outcome, the odds reflect it. Most often, the books lean heavily to one side of the story and make the lines for the favorites almost out of reach. However, since it is not unheard of for surprises in the ring, it’s not a bad idea to take a shot on long shots with upside.

You can expect to see these lines shift several times over the next few months as storylines continue to play out. The card could also look much different in the next few weeks as well. It’s best to keep an eye on the books for all of these changes.

How do WrestleMania odds work?

In wrestling, you are betting on the winner of the match by the declaration of the referee. For example, if you bet $10 on Becky Lynch at +300 to beat Rhea Ripley for the title, you would win $30 with a total payout of $40 if she's announced the winner.
