WrestleMania 40 matchups and analysis

Universal Championship odds: Cody Rhodes (-600) vs. Roman Reigns (+350)

Things have been heating up between The American Nightmare and The Bloodline over the past few weeks. Rhodes announced he would be taking on Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at a press conference following his win at the Royal Rumble. He did so, interrupting what was supposed to be an announcement of a main event featuring Reigns and his cousin, The Rock.

The confrontation came to a head with The Rock slapping Rhodes in the face and adding several verbal jabs to the insult. Seth Rollins offered up a temporary alliance with Rhodes against his former partner in The Shield. The Rock did not take kindly to any of this, taking his anger out against fans on SmackDown in Salt Lake City recently.

At the Elimination Chamber, Rhodes and Rollins were guests on the Grayson Waller Effect to discuss the Universal Championship match. During the interview, Austin Theory paid the price for his Rock impersonation, prompting Cody to call out the People’s Champ to a match any time, any place.

Matters intensified on Monday night as Rhodes declared that he is actively hunting The Bloodline.

World Heavyweight Championship odds: Drew McIntyre (-300) vs. Seth Rollins (+200)

McIntyre pinned A.J. Styles to earn a spot in the Elimination Chamber. The Chosen One entered the ring first and eliminated three of his competitors on his way to the win. His victory secured a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.

During an in-ring spot the following Monday on RAW, McIntyre mentioned an injury he suffered in the chamber but assured the WWE universe he would not miss WrestleMania. He then called out Rollins, who joined him inside the squared circle.

McIntyre pleaded with his opponent to keep his head in the game and not continue to distract himself with Rhodes and what is happening on SmackDown. Rollins reiterated his intentions to take down The Bloodline before they come after the World Heavyweight title. The Scottish Warrior does not share those concerns and vows to uphold the RAW brand when he wins the title in April.

Women's Championship odds: Bayley (-1250) vs. Iyo Sky (+550)

After winning the Women’s Royal Rumble last month, many thought Bayley would try to add another piece of hardware to her team’s collection. Instead, after recognizing betrayal by her so-called friends on Damage CTRL, the Role Model set her sights on revenge by choosing to go after Iyo Sky and the WWE Women’s Championship title.

Since then, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and Sky have terrorized Bayley and Dakota Kai. In the process, they have built up tensions leading up to the WrestleMania showdown between the former friends.

Sky has held her title for more than 200 days. Despite that Bayley is an overwhelming favorite still to take it away.

Women's World Championship odds: Rhea Ripley (-400) vs. Becky Lynch (+250)

Two things had to happen at the Elimination Chamber for this match to become official. First, The Man had to hold off five other superstars in the chamber to claim her half of a title match at WrestleMania. Second, Rhea Riley needed to hold onto her title in her home country against Nia Jax. Both occurred. Now, the Women’s World Championship match will feature Mami against The Man.

Despite the match already being set, Jax has continued to insert herself into the conversation. This includes a recent confrontation on RAW in which Jax attacked Lynch during an in-ring spot between her and Ripley. Later that night, The Man exacted revenge by going after Jax during her match against Liv Morgan.

This triangle will continue on the road to WrestleMania. The only question is how much Jax will factor into the outcome of the title match in April. Mami is the heavy favorite here, possibly anticipating a little outside help to hold on to her title.

WrestleMania 40 prop bet: Conor McGregor to appear during the show (+500)

This prop was brought on by a recent appearance by UFC star Michael Chandler. The former coach on “The Ultimate Fighter,” called out fellow UFC fighter Conor McGregor, urging him to return to the octagon. He did so with the WrestleMania sign clearly in the background which has many fans speculating about a match between the two during the big show.

All of this could be a major play on the recent merger of the UFC and WWE under the TKO umbrella. It’s possible the fledgling brand will use the bright lights of one of the biggest events in sports entertainment to further their presence.

This bet will only cash if McGregor appears on the Live TV feed as a part of the show. If he is shown only as part of the audience, it won't count as a winning ticket.

How to bet on WrestleMania 40

Unlike most sporting events, the scripted nature of the WWE offers some unique challenges to the books. On the one hand, much like football, baseball, basketball, etc., the fans don’t know the outcome of a match. However, those participating as well as those who wrote the storyline do.

Because you are betting on a predetermined outcome, the odds reflect it. Most often, the books lean heavily to one side of the story and make the lines for the favorites almost out of reach. However, since it is not unheard of for surprises in the ring, it’s not a bad idea to take a shot on long shots with upside.

You can expect to see these lines shift several times over the next few months as storylines continue to play out. The card could also look much different in the next few weeks as well. It’s best to keep an eye on the books for all of these changes.

How do WrestleMania odds work?

In wrestling, you are betting on the winner of the match by the declaration of the referee. For example, if you bet $10 on Becky Lynch at +250 to beat Rhea Ripley for the title, you would win $25 with a total payout of $35 if she's announced the winner.
