The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers conclude their first series in the Bronx since 2016  on Sunday, as we offer our best Dodgers vs. Yankees player props based on the top MLB odds.

The Yankees were home underdogs for the first time this season on Friday (and just the 14th time overall). The Yankees, with .700 or better winning percentage 50-plus games into the season, won't have to get used to that moniker. However, oddsmakers were justified in placing the Dodgers as the favorites against a Yankees team that didn't have Juan Soto in the lineup. The Pinstripes lost their 31st extra-inning game since 2020, the third-most in the majors in that span. 

Los Angeles handed New York just its third series loss of the season after yesterday’s 11-3 blowout victory, and now the Yankees look for a win tonight to avoid a home sweep.

Yankees righty Luis Gil could seemingly be facing the old Murderer’s Row lineup in this start, but we are happy to back him given how historically his career has begun. He has an AL-best 1.82 ERA and followed a sensational May, where he allowed a .109 OBA in 38 ⅔ innings, by allowing just one hit over six scoreless innings in his last start against the Minnesota Twins.

Stathead’s Katie Sharp revealed that Gil is the first pitcher in Yankees history with a sub-1.85 era and 80 or more strikeouts through his first 12 starts of a season, and is also just one of two pitchers ever with a seven-game span of a sub-0.65 ERA and 15 or fewer hits allowed. MLB’s Sarah Langs added that Gil’s seven consecutive starts recording at least 18 outs and allowing one or fewer earned runs is the longest in Yankees history.

Shohei Ohtani Under 1.5 total bases ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ohtani went 0-for-5 in the first game of the series, and the documented back and hamstring issues he is dealing with seem to have caught up with him. Entering the weekend, he was batting just .195 with three home runs and 10 RBI since May 16 while watching his average plummet 52 points. 

Gil has allowed an MLB-best .105 OBA and .175 slugging among all qualified pitchers in home starts, while his .199 wOBA ranked second only to teammate Nestor Cortes prior to the southpaw’s Saturday start.

Tyler Glasnow Over 7.5 strikeouts ⭐⭐⭐

With his nine-strikeout performance in his last start, Dodgers ace Tyler Glasnow became the first pitcher this season to record 100 strikeouts, and his 104 lead the league. The Yankees are familiar with Glasnow from his time with the Tampa Bay Rays, but the righty has limited current Yankees hitters to a .202/.278/.263 slash line and 24 of the 65 outs he has recorded in those 89 combined at-bats have come via strikeout.

Los Angeles moved up Glasnow’s regularly scheduled start by a day to ensure he could pitch in this series. And while his ERA, OBA, on-base percentage, and slugging percentages allowed are all the worst on four days’ rest compared to five or six, his 12.2 K/9 rate is also the best in this split (with a 33-start sample size), compared to an 11.5 K/9 rate on five days’ rest and an 11.0 K/9 rate when he has six-plus days between starts. 

The next-closest sportsbook in terms of value for this wager is FanDuel (+112 odds), whereas Caesars is not even offering plus-money odds, sitting as low as -101.
