⛳ Zurich Classic Odds & Pick to Win 2026: Fade Favorites in New Orleans Team Event

The PGA Tour's annual team event takes place this week at TPC Louisiana outside of New Orleans, and we're breaking down the Zurich Classic odds with eyes on value beyond the better-known favorites.

📡 SBR Edge: 2026 Zurich Classic lacks dominant favorites, aim for long shots

Fresh off a win in the RBC Heritage, Matthew Fitzpatrick and brother Alex are the betting favorites by this week's Zurich Classic odds. Though the two have experience in this event, I don't consider them worthy of the shortened +1100 betting odds given this tournament's format and history.

The alternate-shot and fourball scoring lends itself to high variance at TPC Louisiana (as do the copious water and sand hazards). I'm looking for a potential winning team with odds of at least 20/1 this week.

Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick return to TPC Louisiana for the first time as the outright betting favorites in this event. Matt, 31, is fresh off a playoff win (over Scottie Scheffler) in the RBC Heritage. His second PGA Tour win of the season accompanies a runner-up finish in The Players Championship and moved him to a career-best third in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Alex, 27, enters the week at No. 141 in the OWGR. He claimed victory in the DP World Tour's Hero Indian Open in March, but he hasn't played a professional tournament since. The two missed the cut in this event last year.

🪧 Zurich Classic format

The 2026 Zurich Classic consists of 74 teams of two playing for a $9.5 million purse.

The teams play fourball on Thursday and Saturday (Rounds 1 and 3) and foursomes on Friday and Sunday (Rounds 2 and 4). Fourball may be better known as "better ball", and foursomes known as alternate shot.

🏆 Zurich Classic pick to win: Marco Penge and Matt Wallace (+2200)

Marco Penge and Matt Wallace begin the week ranked Nos. 39 and 69, respectively, in the OWGR. Wallace fell just shy of an invitation to Augusta National with a T-2 finish in the Valero Texas Open, and finished T-55 last week. Penge finished a disappointing T-77 last week in the Signature Event after a T-49 result in his Masters debut.

I like the skill set these two bring to TPC Louisiana and how they complement each other, particularly in the fourball rounds. Penge is the longest hitter in golf over his past 12 rounds, and he averages 0.64 strokes gained: off-the-tee per round, with 0.31 SG: putting per round. Wallace possesses the sharper iron game, averaging 0.70 SG: approach and 1.33 SG: tee-to-green per round.

⚖️ How I'm betting the Zurich Classic

As mentioned above, the Zurich Classic brings an added degree of variance given the team scoring format. I hit on the winner each of the past two years and also bet Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith in 2021. The winning team most commonly comes with pre-tournament odds beyond 10/1, so that's where I'm looking this year as we don't have any one team as dominant as Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy, or Patrick Cantlay (2024) and Schauffele (2022). I'm fading the Fitzpatrick brothers as favorites, as Matt's recent win shortened these odds too much.

I also stick to the outright betting market in this event. Our best golf betting sites will release odds for prop markets closer to Thursday, but even the outright odds came out later than usual on Monday morning. Approach the Zurich Classic with a smaller bankroll than a regular event.

Wetlands, ponds, and bunkers offer little protection against low scores at TPC Louisiana. All eight winning teams since 2017 finished between -20 and -30, with three champion teams needing a playoff after 72 holes. The 18th hole has led to some exciting finishes and playoffs, with water guarding the entire right side of the hole.

Kep the ball dry, and out of the 100-plus bunkers, and there'll be plenty of scoring opportunities. Look for birdie makers and sharp approach games when choosing your team to win.
