SMU vs. Florida State Same-Game Parlay: College Football Week 1 SGP Picks & Odds

My best SMU vs. Florida State same-game parlay focuses on both teams' passing attacks in tonight's week-ending tilt.

Florida State struggled against New Mexico State's passing game and now has to slow down Kevin Jennings. But No. 19 SMU's defense is also set to struggle, as last year's second-worst pass defense is tasked with slowing down wide receiver Duce Robinson.

SMU is favored by 3 ahead of Monday's 7:30 p.m. ET game at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla. The game will air on ESPN.

SMU -3 (-105) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Florida State may have won its Week 0 game 34-17, but the victory was hardly as comfortable as the final score implies. Florida State led New Mexico State just 27-17 with 7:42 remaining in the game, and the Seminoles allowed 272 passing yards to Trey Hedden.

This game is at Florida State, and the Seminoles have a slight advantage over SMU because they've already played a game. However, I'm still backing SMU and Jennings, who is 20-7 over the last two seasons as a starter. 

It's a stance shared by Brenden Schaeffer, who backs SMU to cover the spread as one of his SMU vs. Florida State predictions.

Kevin Jennings 270+ passing yards (-110) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Speaking of Jennings, I have no faith that Florida State will slow him down. Last season, he threw for at least 270 yards in nine of his 13 games, and he only threw for fewer than 247 yards once. And even if SMU gets out to a huge lead, Jennings threw for at least 270 yards in five games that SMU won by double digits last year.

In his only prior start against Florida State, Jennings threw for 254 yards and three touchdowns. SMU won that game by 26 points, and Jennings topped 250 yards despite only attempting 23 passes.

Duce Robinson 70+ receiving yards (-111) ⭐⭐⭐

Robinson had a quiet Week 0, catching just three passes for 50 yards. But this is a player who caught 56 passes for 1,081 yards last season. He topped 70 yards in eight of his 12 games, and he reached at least 100 yards on five different occasions.

SMU's pass defense was the second-worst in the nation last season, allowing 283.2 yards per game. SMU will be starting seven transfers, but even with plenty of new defensive players, there's still too much for SMU to fix to slow down a receiver as talented as Robinson.
