William Hill continued its planned ascent up the legal sports betting provider ladder with the launch of its sportsbook app and website in West Virginia Friday. William Hill's partnership with Mountaineer Casino & Racetrack in New Cumberland accelerated the gambling provider's launch, which came just in time for its customers to take advantage of a busy Labor Day Weekend and the start of the NFL season.

William Hill has been busy building an elite-level brand in the US. The biggest news about that path came in July, when it was able to take control of Caesars sportsbooks thanks to an Eldorado-Caesars merger. William Hill, because of that windfall, now has 170 sportsbooks in 13 states across the US and boasts an impressive 29% market share because of their impressive reach. You can now add West Virginia and Mountaineer Casino & Racetrack into the incredible stable of properties under William Hill control, with many more to follow.

The William Hill Sportsbook App in West Virginia is available for download on any Apple or Android device from anywhere in the state or by visiting the website.

West Virginia

West Virginia isn't the biggest market but it serves as another brick in the wall for William Hill. The scene in the state was understandably affected by COVID-19 but has been on a slow road to recovery, not unlike the gambling industry in other states across the country.

Casinos reopened June 5 in the state and sports betting took in just $5.7 million in that month. By July however, the industry grew 94.5% and took in $15.9 million in bets - $11.2 million of that coming via mobile apps, something that William Hill hopes to expand upon going forward.

What William Hill Brings

William Hill is considered to be in the elite class of sports betting providers in the US. Their proprietary platform provides bettors a huge variety of markets and bet types. Included in that is William Hill's industry-best live game wagering - a bet type exponentially gaining in popularity right now.

William Hill's sheer size will bring some welcome competition to the state. Right off the bat, William Hill will be able to provide a 100% match up to $150, plus a $10 registration bonus to new customers to their site.

Earlier this week, William Hill brought GC Technologies to provide industry leading tech advantages to the growing sports betting provider. Simply put, William Hill has become a virtual one-stop shop, providing everything from cutting-edge technology to ultra-competitive betting lines to multiple deposit and withdrawal options for customers to a quick and secure registration process.

Rapid Expansion

William Hill didn't slow down their expansion aspirations when they took over Caesars sportsbooks. On July 31, the company entered the DC market with a groundbreaking sportsbook at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C - the first of its kind in the US.

The beginning of August saw William Hill go live in the competitive and much-anticipated Illinois market. Last week's acquisition of GC Technologies gave the Company control over Venetian Las Vegas, Tropicana Las Vegas, Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, Palazzo, Palms and Silverton - all on the Vegas Strip.

And now comes news of their expansion to West Virginia.

William Hill CEO Ulrik Bengtsson said the company has made “excellent progress in our U.S. business,” making it clear he sees big opportunities in the U.S. in the second half of the year. But there is no reason to think that more rapid expansion isn't in the plans.

Timing Is Everything

With the PGA’s Tour Championship and Kentucky Derby going this weekend, college football starting up, with the NBA and NHL continuing their playoffs, with the MLB season carrying on and with the NFL season less than a week away from kickoff, the timing couldn't be better for William Hill and West Virginia.

It may in fact be the best time ever to be not only a sports fan but one that bets on its outcomes.

Bettors in West Virginia gain a little more competition in the legal sports betting space ahead of the much-anticipated NFL season, while William Hill adds to their already impressive portfolio. William Hill’s arrival in West Virginia is good news for everyone.
