BetMGM has brought the Game of Thrones-branded slot machine to its Alberta casino platform, marking the game's second appearance in a Canadian market after it first launched in Ontario.

The Alberta online casinos rollout was confirmed by BetMGM alongside developer Blueprint Gaming, the studio behind the title's design and mechanics.

According to the companies, the Ontario online casino version of the game produced strong results after its debut there, with engagement and performance figures that stood out even against a crowded field of new releases. Analytics firm Eilers & Krejcik Gaming placed Game of Thrones among the top five newly launched online casino titles in Canada, a ranking that helped set expectations for how it might perform once it reached additional provinces.

The slot was developed in collaboration between Blueprint Gaming and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences, drawing on the HBO series for its visual style and thematic elements. Gameplay centers on a progressive Money Collect feature that starts with a Night's Watch stage and then opens into house-specific bonuses.

Those are tied to Stark, Baratheon, Lannister, and Targaryen, each adding its own twist to how prizes accumulate during a session. Additional modifiers inspired by wildfire effects are layered into the game to add variety as players advance.

Alberta's broader iGaming market sees a crowded launch

BetMGM's move into Alberta comes as the province's entire regulated online gambling sector gets underway, with 22 operators going live at once and roughly 50 more having applied to join. Regulators require every legal platform to display a seal of approval from the Alberta iGaming Corporation before it can offer casino games or sports betting.

The launch followed two years of preparation, and Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally held a press conference to warn operators that mistreating Albertans or falling short of provincial standards would have consequences. Industry analysts have described the size of the opening field as unusually large compared with past state launches in the US or Ontario's earlier debut, calling it a sign of how much revenue operators expect the province to generate.

Operators must pay 20% of revenue to the government, a share expected to produce about $76 million in the first year, with 2% set aside for First Nations communities and 1% directed toward responsible gambling programs. Nally has said the tax rate was deliberately set low enough to keep companies willing to participate.

New rules also restrict advertising aimed at minors and require age verification before betting, as well as a self-exclusion option for players. A University of Alberta researcher has raised concerns that pairing athletes with gambling promotions could still blur the line for younger audiences, and consumer watchdogs have warned of scammers exploiting the market's launch with fake betting sites.
