On Tuesday, the bustling Iowa legal sports betting family grew with news that Fanatics Sportsbook, one of our best sports betting sites, became the latest Iowa sports betting app at 11 AM ET. Fanatics announced the launch on X.

The Iowa launch is the latest for Fanatics Betting and Gaming, which purchased the American wing of PointsBet for $225 million this past summer and has since been migrating its platform over from the Australian-based sportsbook in the markets that PointsBet previously had a presence in.

The Iowa sports betting scene is the 12th state to welcome the Fanatics Sportsbook mobile sports betting brand. Fanatics also has retail sportsbooks in three U.S. jurisdictions.

More details

According to a Fanatics Sportsbook press release, "Sports fans living in and visiting Iowa will be able to download the Fanatics Sportsbook on iOS and Android and begin their Fanatics Sportsbook experience." Residents of the state can now take advantage of our Fanatics promo code.

Those who had a PointsBet account in the Iowa market will be able to download the Fanatics Sportsbook Iowa app and keep their PointsBet log-in information, including customer’s username, password, account balance, rewards points, and responsible gaming settings.

New Fanatics users who want to take advantage of the newest entry on the list of Iowa sports betting apps will immediately become eligible for the sportsbook's elite Rewards Program “FanCash,” which allows for 5% cash back that can be used for bonus bets or for Fanatics branded merchandise from its extensive online retail store.

Retail casino Catfish Bend Casino in the state will also be switching from its PointsBet affiliation to the new Fanatics Sportsbook name.

Competitive Iowa market

Fanatics will be entering a competitive Iowa legal sports betting market. All of the top legal sports betting national brands are present in the Hawkeye State, making its road to respectability a tough one that features numerous Iowa sportsbook promos.

Iowa sports betting sites include FanDuel, DraftKings, and Caesars, among the top-tier names, as well as bet365, ESPN BET, and BetMGM. Breaking into the middle tier is what is expected from the Fanatics Sportsbook in Iowa. Cracking the top three looks like a tough ask for Iowa’s newest sports betting product at this point.

PointsBet had been in that middle tier of Iowa sports betting sites, exactly where Fanatics is likely to land. PointsBet finished 2023 with a slightly underwhelming $36.6 million total handle and $2.8 million in winnings in the state.

Hopefully, Fanatics will be able to bump those numbers up over time with its recognizable branding and giant customer base from its apparel business.

Growth of the Fanatics brand

Fanatics Sportsbook has been on an expansion blitz since taking over from PointsBet. The sportsbook now has a presence in Connecticut, Colorado, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Iowa.

Iowa has made three market access announcements since December for the company. Fanatics took over from PlaySugarHouse as one of just three Connecticut sports betting apps and will be one of the first sportsbooks to gain access to North Carolina when North Carolina sports betting apps launch on March 11.

Fanatics is also apparently attempting to become the next Arizona sports betting app.
