49ers vs. Eagles Preview
San Francisco comes into this matchup on a 12-game winning streak, looking for lucky number 13 to advance them to their second Super Bowl in the past four seasons. The Eagles (-148) will have home field advantage over the 49ers (+126) and are a 2.5-point favorite.
San Francisco 49ers
Despite failing to record a passing touchdown Brock Purdy and the 49ers managed to cover a 3.5-point spread this past week, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 19-12. The win moves San Francisco to 13-6 against the spread on the season, good for the fourth-best cover percentage in the NFL. Purdy’s streak of throwing two or more passing touchdowns ended at seven, but the rookie improved to 8-0 in games started to begin his career. Christian McCaffrey was the only 49ers player to find the endzone as kicker Robbie Gould secured 12 points, going perfect on four attempts.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles dealt with no adversity in the Divisional Round this past week, defeating the New York Giants 38-7. They will make their return to the Conference Championship for the first time since 2017, with only five players from that team on their current roster. This year's team is star-studded across the board, but it was surprise contributor Kenneth Gainwell who led the way with a career high 112 rushing yards. Jalen Hurts converted his first passing touchdown since Dec. 11 and rushed to the end zone for the 14th time this season.
This will be the second time these two teams meet in postseason history. The 49ers came out on top in the 1996 NFC Wild Card game, winning 14-0. Philadelphia has won seven of the past 10 matchups dating back to 2005, but San Francisco won the most recent matchup 17-11 at the beginning of last season. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
