WynnBET is exiting one of the biggest betting markets in the United States, with another one of the best sports betting sites taking over its license.

The New York sports betting scene is losing one of the best sports betting apps but gaining another, as ESPN BET is set to acquire WynnBET's online sports betting license in the state. ESPN BET is expected to launch as one of the best New York sports betting apps this fall.

WynnBET will continue to operate as part of the Nevada sports betting scene, and it will allow existing customers in New York to access their accounts and withdraw remaining funds until Aug. 29 at 11 p.m. ET.

WynnBET continues to exit big markets

Just one year ago, WynnBET closed operations in the Arizona sports betting scene, Colorado sports betting scene, Indiana sports betting scene, Louisiana sports betting scene, New Jersey sports betting scene, Tennessee sports betting scene, Virginia sports betting scene, and West Virginia sports betting scene.

It's also shut down its mobile operations in the Massachusetts sports betting scene.

“In light of the continued requirement for outsized marketing spend through user acquisition and promotions in online sports betting, we believe there are higher and better uses of capital deployment for Wynn Resorts shareholders," Wynn Resorts chief financial officer Julie Cameron-Doe said when the sportsbook shut down in those states.

"While we believe in the long-term prospects of iGaming, the dearth of iGaming legislation and the presence of numerous other investment opportunities available to us around the globe have led us to the decision to curtail our capital investment in WynnBet to focus primarily on those states where we maintain a physical presence.”

ESPN BET continues to grow

Bettors gained access to ESPN BET promo codes in November 2023 when the sportsbook went live in 17 U.S. states, taking over for Barstool Sportsbook. It has continued to expand into other jurisdictions, mostly recently launching in the North Carolina sports betting scene.

PENN Entertainment announced on Feb. 13 that it purchased Wynn Interactive Holding’s New York sports betting license for $25 million.

“This is an important development that will bring ESPN BET to the largest regulated online sports wagering market in North America," Jay Snowden, CEO and president of PENN Entertainment, said in a statement. "Together with ESPN, we’re building a brand that is synonymous with sports betting, and operating in the New York market is key as we grow ESPN BET across the US.”
