The WM Phoenix Open was already a must-see event for golf fans – and the entertainment value will be ratcheted up even higher in the near future.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced Monday that DraftKings Sportsbook will offer onsite betting via a retail sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale, making it the first sports betting operator to offer brick-and-mortar wagering at a PGA Tour venue.

Ground has already been broken on the 12,000 square-foot retail sportsbook, which is scheduled to open next fall. It will also include a high-end restaurant, more than 3,400 square feet of video walls and screens throughout the venue, and an outdoor patio area with video screens, VIP cabanas and fire pits.

The sportsbook itself will have approximately 40 betting kiosks and seven ticket windows. Complimentary high-speed internet will also be available to customers to use their mobile devices to place wagers.

Often dubbed “The People’s Open” for boasting the most electric crowds of any PGA Tour event, the home of the WM Phoenix Open was a fitting choice as the history-making venue.

"As we started to understand what the opportunities were market by market, this is a market that we realized we could do something very special [in]," Monahan said in a statement. "If you would've asked me, 'Where do you think that might happen, at some point?' This would've been the location."

DraftKings CEO Jason Robins added that a “brick-and-mortar location could be more appealing to tourists from locations where sports betting is not legal and who may not have the app on their phones.”

The PGA Tour made DraftKings its official fantasy sports partner in 2019, and the official betting operator the following year. This is another development to strengthen their relationship while also providing a more accessible betting experience for golf fans.

It's also the latest in a flood of good news for Arizona-based sports bettors, who are already gearing up for a plethora of action with the 2023 Super Bowl being held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale in February.
