They may not have access to most of our best sports betting sites, but up north in the Atlantic Provinces in Canada they indeed have access to our best sportsbooks in Canada.
Effective immediately, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation has named Dallas McCready its new President and Chief Executive Officer. This change follows the announcement of the departure of current president and CEO Patrick Daigle last year.
Since 2022, McCready has served as the company's Chief Strategy Officer. He was appointed after an extensive international search process led by the ALC Board of Directors.
This transition began last year when Daigle announced his retirement in 2024 after 27 unbroken years in the organization. A special committee put together by the ALC Board ensured an orderly change-over by engaging directly in the search process, with management and human resources consulting firm Royer Thompson as its leadership advisory firm.
“I’m honoured to have earned the confidence of the Board and I look forward to the exciting work ahead with the team. Atlantic Lottery has always punched above its weight. With increasing competition in the sector, we are emerging as a leader in healthy play for our customers while continuing to make a game-changing impact for the people and places of Atlantic Canada,” said McCready in a press release about his appointment.
More than 120 candidates were considered for the role before McCready was selected.
Leading the Next Era of ALC
McCready brings extensive experience in the North American gaming industry to the role, having spent time as an executive with Inversa Systems and the position of Deputy Minister with the Government of New Brunswick before joining Atlantic Lottery.
He also worked for Spielo Gaming in the gaming industry and experienced its inner details directly. At ALC, McCready will play a major role in formulating the company’s updated five-year strategic plan.
ALC is a government-owned gaming organization that operates and manages all lottery and gaming activities in the four Atlantic Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador. The corporation was formed in 1976 and is jointly owned by the provincial governments. Its purpose is to provide regulated and responsible gaming while raising revenue for public programs.
ALC offers various gaming products, including lottery games, online gambling, video lottery terminals, and sports betting. The company's revenues are returned to the provincial governments to finance infrastructure projects, such as healthcare, education, and more.
Most Canadian provinces have a lottery service that operates lottery games, online sports betting, and casino gambling. However, the onus may move from lottery operators to provide all types of gambling to allow third parties to operate in the future. For example, Ontario sports betting is the only province with a regulated sports betting market, although this will change when Alberta sports betting launches its legal market.
