Chiefs vs. Eagles preview

The top two seeds in the NFL will square off in the Super Bowl for the 13th time in NFL history. The last time two number-one seeds were the final two teams standing was in 2017 when the Eagles defeated the New England Patriots 44-33. Philadelphia (-125) are 1.5-point favorites with the total set at 51.

Philadelphia Eagles

The defensive skill gap is much larger than the offensive skill gap between these two teams. The Chiefs rank first in points scored and 16th in points allowed, while the Eagles rank third in points scored and seventh in points allowed. The Eagles defense is star-studded, with safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson tied for the league lead in interceptions (six), and linebacker Haason Reddick finishing first in forced fumbles (six). Not only that, but they also had four players finish the regular season with double-digit sacks.

This defense has helped Philadelphia to an impressive 55-point differential over the past two games, scoring 69 points and only allowing 14. They have allowed the fewest passing yards this season and have yet to allow a passing touchdown in the playoffs.

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City has allowed exactly 20 points in each of their playoff games, outscoring opponents by only 10 points. They have now won seven straight games after narrowly defeating the Cincinnati Bengals by a field goal this past week.

Their defense has been much more successful at preventing the run this season, ranking eighth in rushing yards allowed compared to 19th in passing yards allowed. Defensive tackle Chris Jones ranks third in sacks, Lโ€™Jarius Sneed ranked third in forced fumbles, and Nick Bolton finished second in combinations. They have allowed fewer than 20 points only four times this season, but have offset this by scoring at least 20 points in 18 of their 19 games.

This will be the first playoff matchup in NFL history between the Eagles and Chiefs. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Eastern time.
