The upside on Lance is unmistaken, but the 49ers have yet to officially call their 2021 first-round selection from North Dakota State their starting quarterback. Questions still remain on the health and future of Jimmy Garoppolo, who underwent right shoulder surgery and is still a month away from a throwing program.

Last season, Lance appeared in just six games, completing 41-of-71 passes for 603 yards and five touchdowns. His 168 rushing yards ranked him fourth on the team behind Jeff Wilson, Deebo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell.
