The National Football League released its 2022 schedule on Thursday, and point spreads are out for every game, covering an 18-week season.

A lot can happen during an NFL season, creating massive changes in expectations as the season progresses. Still, the season has to start with a baseline, and the schedule release provides that opportunity for a starting point.

Here are five intriguing point spreads, via DraftKings, from the 2022 NFL schedule.

Chiefs (-3) vs. Cardinals – Week 1

With the second shortest Super Bowl odds of any team, expectations are quite high for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, they will not have an opportunity to ease into their season, as Kansas City’s first eight opponents in 2022 will be teams that had winning records in 2021, starting with the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will be missing suspended wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for the first six weeks, and the Chiefs will be re-tooling their receiving corps after trading Tyreek Hill to Miami.

Packers (-1) vs. Dolphins – Week 16

The NFL will play a triple-header on Christmas Day, starting with Green Bay taking on Miami in South Florida, followed by the Broncos at the Rams and the Buccaneers at the Cardinals.

This tight line suggests that the Dolphins will be a competitive side this season if they are one-point underdogs against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

Eagles (pick) vs. Commanders – Week 3

There appears to be some market uncertainty about the relative value of the Washington Commanders this season. Five of their 17 games are listed as pick ‘em, starting with this Week 3 home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Commanders are one-point underdogs in two more games, so they are looking at many close games, at least according to the early point spreads.

Buccaneers (-7.5) vs. Falcons – Week 18

With Tom Brady back in the fold for the Bucs, they are expected to be Super Bowl contenders again, and a Week 18 matchup against the Falcons looks like a total mismatch since the Falcons are more likely to be competing for the first overall pick in the draft.

One issue: it is possible that the Bucs have clinched their playoff position going into the final week of the regular season, and maybe Week 18 will be a week to rest the starters.

Rams (-13) vs. Falcons – Week 2

The most significant spread of any game to open the season has the defending Super Bowl champions as massive favorites against the Atlanta Falcons - a team that figures to be challenging for the worst record in the league.

This game is also early enough in the schedule that there would seem to be less uncertainty. Late in the season, injuries could make a real difference in which players are available – and those injuries could happen before Week 2 – but early in the season does figure to offer the best representation from each side, which is bad news for the Falcons.
