World Cup 2030 Odds, Way Too Early Predictions: Will Spain Defend Championship?

With an almost immaculate run, Spain won the 2026 World Cup. It was Spain's second World Cup triumph and first since 2010. My World Cup 2030 way-too-early predictions discuss whether La Roja can repeat as champions, a feat only two teams (Brazil and Italy) have achieved.   

I also feature two appealing alternative bets for the 2030 edition, which will be hosted in Portugal, Morocco, and Spain. 

Spain is the early 2030 betting favorite, with France and Portugal receiving the second and third-shortest odds.

La Roja's domination at the 2026 World Cup will be forever etched in the annals of soccer history. Luis de la Fuente's side allowed one goal in eight games, setting a record for fewest concessions at a World Cup.

The even more incredible aspect is that they set the record despite playing one additional match, thanks to the expanded 48-team version in 2026. 

They combine that defensive expertise with exquisite technicians all over the park. And most of their best players, including Lamine Yamal, will still be in their prime. Yamal will only be 23 years old, while Golden Ball winner Rodri will be 34, past his prime, but not too old to make an indelible impression. And did I mention Spain are co-hosts? 

While I imagine their unbeaten run, which stands at a record 38 matches, will be over by then, Spain is my way-too-early team to back.

Les Bleus ended World Cup 2026 disappointingly, losing to Spain in the semifinals before falling 6-4 to England in the consolation final. Previously, France was the team of the tournament, playing expressively in attack and showing solid defensive work. 

France are deeper than the Pacific Ocean, and they will have one of the best rosters in 2030, led by Kylian Mbappe, who will be 31 years old. Michael Olise will only be 28, and the team will reportedly be coached by Zinedine Zidane, a former World Cup icon and arguably the nation's most legendary player. 

Les Bleus haven't finished below fourth place in the last three World Cups, winning in 2018, and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. 

England (+800)

A story as old as time: England came close to ending their 60-year barren run. Close doesn't cut it anymore for a side plagued by an inability to win the big game. 

Will it be different in 2030? Possibly.

The collective showed superb character up until the second-half implosion against Argentina, making strides by winning at the Azteca Stadium, a place few teams escape with anything but sour memories and a traumatic experience. 

Jude Bellingham and many of the team's best players, including Bukayo Saka and Djed Spence, will be under 30. The looming question is who will replace Harry Kane, who will be 36, up front?

England finished fourth in 2018 and third in 2026. It has to happen soon, right?
