Rain could impact this week's Sunday Night Football clash, but my Lions vs. Panthers prediction still anticipates a high-scoring game.

The Lions have scored 31 points in each of their first three games, and the Panthers won't be able to slow them down after putting cornerbacks Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn on IR.

The Lions are a 3.5-point betting favorite, with kickoff from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., set for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC).

💰 Lions vs. Panthers prediction & best bet

Over 50.5 (-108 via BetMGM)

The Lions have the third-highest-scoring offense in the NFL, but they also have the worst scoring defense. The Lions are allowing 31.7 points per game and have given up at least 24 points in every game.

Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is off to the best start of his career, and he currently leads the NFL in passing yards. There's no reason to expect him to slow down on Sunday when he faces the 32nd-ranked pass defense.

And though the Panthers rank fifth in pass defense, after losing both starting cornerbacks, they won't be able to handle Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Sam LaPorta. Plus, the Panthers rank 32nd in rush defense, which means a huge game for Jahmyr Gibbs.

This total opened at 45.5, and it's shot up to 51. However, the public has cooled on the Over because of the weather, and at the time of writing, 54% of bets are actually backing the Under.

📡 SBR Edge

Though Jared Goff has struggled in outdoor games throughout his career, those troubles haven't followed him lately. He threw for 327 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his only outdoor game this season, and last year he completed 67.6% of his passes, throwing 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

The Lions can't get off the field on third down

The Lions are allowing opponents to convert on 56.1% of their third-down attempts thus far. Through three weeks, they've allowed 23 third-down conversions, which is more than any other team in the league. They're also yet to prevent a fourth-down conversion, with opponents 3-for-3 this season.

The Panthers are just 14-for-38 on third down this season, but this is the exact matchup where they should boost that percentage. After all, the Jets are just 16-for-43 on third down this season, but they converted 50% of their chances against the Lions last week.

Score prediction: Lions 38, Panthers 28
