The 3M Open Third-Round leader market takes center stage this week as the PGA Tour heads to TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, for one of the final events of the regular season.

This week's tournament features a competitive field looking to capitalize on one of the PGA Tour's most scoreable layouts while earning valuable FedEx Cup points before the playoffs. TPC Twin Cities rewards aggressive play with generous landing areas, reachable par 5s, and plenty of birdie opportunities, but its numerous water hazards can quickly lead to costly mistakes. Those conditions create plenty of volatility, making the Third-Round Leader market especially appealing, as one hot round on Saturday can produce dramatic leaderboard movement and uncover strong betting value heading into the third round.

β›³ Who'll lead the 3M Open after Round 3?

Ben Kohles (+630)

Ben Kohles heads into Saturday at 11-under, just three shots behind leader Michael Kim, giving him an outstanding opportunity to make a move in the third round of the 3M Open. Kohles has been one of the steadiest players in the field, combining accurate ball-striking with a reliable putter to stay near the top of the leaderboard.

TPC Twin Cities rewards aggressive scoring, and Kohles has already shown he can capitalize on its birdie chances. Another clean, low round could quickly vault him into first place and make him Saturday's third-round leader.

Jackson Koivun (+970)

Jackson Koivun enters Saturday at 10-under, just four shots behind leader Michael Kim, putting him well within striking distance at the 3M Open. The young standout has consistently generated birdie opportunities through the first two rounds and possesses the aggressive mindset needed to climb the leaderboard on TPC Twin Cities' scoring-friendly layout.

With plenty of reachable holes and favorable scoring conditions, Koivun has the firepower to post one of the day's lowest rounds. If his putter heats up early, he has an excellent chance to erase the deficit and finish as the third-round leader.

Billy Horschel (+3400)

Billy Horschel begins Saturday at 9-under, five shots behind leader Michael Kim, but he's well within reach on a course that rewards aggressive scoring. The veteran has the experience to stay patient while taking advantage of TPC Twin Cities' plentiful birdie opportunities.

Horschel's consistent ball-striking and ability to catch fire with the putter make him a dangerous contender moving day. If he strings together an early run of birdies and avoids the costly water hazards, Horschel has all the tools to erase the deficit and emerge as the third-round leader.

⏰️ When are Third-Round Leader bets paid out?

The third-round leader market is decided once everyone in the field has completed their first 54 holes. This may be Sunday morning in the event of a weather or darkness delay.

β›… What to consider when betting on the Third-Round Leader

Betting on the Third-Round Leader of any golf tournament is far different than betting on the tournament winner or any prop market.

Here are the factors I always consider with my third-round leader picks:

  • Tee times
  • Weather
  • Course history
  • Round 1 + 2 scoring average
  • Recent form
  • Key stats for the week

The third-Round Leader betting market is much more volatile than the 72-hole event. As such, the odds for the tournament favorites are higher in this market, and the odds for the long shots are generally slightly shorter when betting on the 54-hole sample.

Early tee times are typically best to target for your picks. Courses are often at their softest and easiest, with no divots in the fairways or wear on the greens. But the weather can significantly change that line of thought. Monitor the weather to be sure your desired golfers will be dodging the worst of the rain and wind, should any be in the forecast.

I also greatly reduce my timeframe when looking at recent performance entering Saturday's third round.
