Penn State -2.5 (-122 via FanDuel)

Penn State has a strong opportunity to bounce back after last week’s 24-20 loss to Wisconsin. The Nittany Lions have been the more productive offense through four games, averaging 36.8 points and 427.3 total yards per game. Rocco Becht has also played efficiently, throwing for 865 yards, nine touchdowns and just one interception. Penn State’s rushing attack has produced 734 yards, giving the offense multiple ways to attack Northwestern’s defense.

The matchup in the trenches is another reason Penn State can cover the short number. Northwestern allowed 271 rushing yards in its loss to Indiana, while Penn State has accumulated 734 rushing yards this season. The Wildcats are also dealing with multiple injuries, including two starting defensive backs listed as doubtful and center Ezomo Oratokhai ruled out. With Penn State holding advantages in line play and overall offensive production, the Nittany Lions have a path to win by at least a field goal on Friday night.

📡 SBR Edge - Penn State's offense will rebound from last week

Penn State’s offense has the talent and balance to respond after being held to 20 points in last week’s loss to Wisconsin, with a strong rushing attack complementing an efficient passing game. Facing a Northwestern defense that has shown vulnerability against the run, the Nittany Lions should have opportunities to establish the ground game and create more explosive plays.

Penn States offense shows their firepower

Penn State’s offense has plenty of firepower to bounce back and put pressure on Northwestern from the opening whistle. The Nittany Lions have shown balance between the passing and rushing games, giving them multiple ways to move the football and keep defenses from loading up on one area. After being held to 20 points last week, Penn State should enter this matchup with an aggressive approach, and its combination of quarterback play, playmakers and rushing production gives the offense the ability to generate big plays.

The matchup also provides Penn State with opportunities to attack Northwestern’s defense in different ways. If the Nittany Lions can establish the run early, it should open up the passing game and create more favorable situations for the offense. Penn State has enough speed and athleticism at the skill positions to turn those opportunities into explosive plays, while its ability to stay balanced can make it difficult for Northwestern to consistently get off the field.

Score prediction: Penn State 28, Northwestern 14
