Oklahoma vs. Michigan Predictions: College Football Week 2 Opening Odds & Early Pick

No. 16 Michigan is a rare underdog at the “Big House” against No. 10 Oklahoma, but my Oklahoma vs. Michigan early predictions back the Wolverines as the public is likely to fade them after last week’s disaster.
The clock work in Michigan’s last-second win over Western Michigan is sure to drive the storyline all week, and that makes the Wolverines the contrarian side against an Oklahoma team on extra rest after shutting out UTEP last Friday night.
Oklahoma is as high as a 6.5-point betting favorite ahead of Saturday’s noon kickoff at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. The game will air on FOX.

Michigan +6.5 (-110 via FanDuel)
Michigan failed to deliver for spread bettors last week, as it garnered at least 76% of the spread wagers at BetMGM and DraftKings. But this week’s number drifted massively from the lookahead line, and I’ll be seeking to take advantage of the bigger number, with the home underdogs getting nearly a touchdown. Right now, FanDuel has the best line.
I wouldn’t put anyone off backing the Under, as the Sooners defense is coming off a season where it led the SEC in points per game, yards per play, yards per rush, and sacks. It also led FBS with 9.4 tackles for loss, including the third-most sacks. But Kyle Whittingham’s bunch looks like it will be comfortable grinding out defensive stops for much of the season.
The key to the cover will be Michigan's stout defensive line, which allowed fewer than three yards per carry last week, making Oklahoma one-dimensional. Sooners quarterback John Mateer completed fewer than 62% of his passes in six of the nine games in which he attempted at least 30 throws last year.

Oklahoma vs. Michigan line movement
The lookahead line had Michigan as small 2.5-point favorites, but quickly jumped the fence to Oklahoma -2.5 after the Wolverines' poor Week 1 performance. It has been one-sided action on Oklahoma ever since, as 71% of the wagers on the Sooners has caused the line to drift as many as four more points from Sunday into Monday morning.
With no buyback in sight on the home underdogs, I wouldn't put anyone off waiting to see if they can get Michigan at +7 or better. But as expected, the total has plummeted two points from 45.5 to 43.5 given the strength of each team's defense. Unless the O/U climbs back up to 44.5 or higher, which seems unlikely given the near dead even betting splits (51/49 in favor of the Over), it's a no-play for me.
