Virginia Casinos Collect $59.5 Million in June Revenue

Virginia has released its casino gaming report for June 2024. Residents of Old Dominion have access to our best sports betting sites; however, while they have brick-and-mortar casinos, they can't access real-money online casinos.

The latest casino gaming report released by the Virginia Lottery shows that the state’s three casinos collectively generated $59.5 million in Adjusted Gaming Revenue (AGR) in June 2024. Compared to the same month last year when AGR reached $52.2 million, this represents a 14.0% increase.

The breakdown

Slots contributed $44.0 million to the total, with table games like blackjack, roulette, and poker accounting for the remaining $15.5 million. If you're in a region where online slots are legal, you can check out our best online slots.

Rivers Casino Portsmouth led with $25.9 million in AGR, comprising almost $18.0 million from slots and nearly $8.0 million from table games. Operating since last January, this casino saw a 26.3% increase in AGR compared to the same month last year.

Caesars Virginia took the second place spot with $19.2 million in AGR, a 1.5% increase year on year. Slots brought in $14.0 million, while table games contributed $5.2 million. Opening to the public last May, it was the latest casino to arrive in the state. Caesars also operates a successful Virginia sports betting app.

Finally, Hard Rock Bristol’s $14.3 million AGR was up 12.9% from last June, including $12 million from slots and $2.3 million from table games. HR Bristol has been operating for two years, the longest-standing Virginia casino.

Taxes and the future

As per Virginia law, casinos in the Old Dominion State must pay a tax on their AGR. In June, $10.7 million was paid to the Gaming Proceeds Fund, which supports problem gambling treatment and other worthy causes statewide.

On Monday, a fourth casino could soon arrive in Virginia after Petersburg Circuit Court Judge Dennis Martin approved the referendum language for a new casino project. This move paves the way for the proposal to appear on the November ballot, where local voters will decide on the project. If approved, Petersburg could become home to the $1.4 billion Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia, including a 200-room hotel, 35,000 square feet of convention space, a pool, a fitness center, and more hospitality and gambling facilities.
