Even without MLB home run leader Shohei Ohtani participating, there's still a star-studded lineup set for the 2023 Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park in Seattle as we check out the odds from the best MLB betting sites.

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a blister just under a week out from the Home Run Derby to rob baseball fans of watching MLB's home run leader put on yet another show. The Angels phenom holds the MLB lead with 31 home runs and is installed as a +100 favorite at FanDuel to finish on top at the end of the regular season.

Even without Ohtani, the 2023 Home Run Derby field is stacked. Two-time Derby champ Pete Alonso of the New York Mets leads the way, but he'll have plenty of competition once again after surrendering his crown to Juan Soto last summer.

Home Run Derby field 2023

  • Pete Alonso, 1B, New York Mets
  • Randy Arozarena, OF, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Mookie Betts, OF, Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr., 1B, Toronto Blue Jays
  • Luis Robert Jr., OF, Chicago White Sox
  • Julio Rodriguez, OF, Seattle Mariners
  • Adley Rutschman, C, Baltimore Orioles
  • Adolis Garcia, OF, Texas Rangers

The 2023 field is highlighted by Pete Alonso of the New York Mets, who won this event in 2019 and 2021 and has hit the most home runs (174) of any player in Home Run Derby history.

Julio Rodriguez – who has also confirmed his participation this year – placed second in 2022 and will have a raucous Mariners home crowd on his side. He'll be joined by fellow second-year star Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles; the 25-year-old ranks fourth among major-league catchers in home runs.

Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. owns the all-time records for home runs in a single round (40) and a single Home Run Derby (91). He'll face stiff competition from fellow AL East slugger Randy Arozarena of the Tampa Bay Rays, who already has 16 home runs this season – just four shy of his career high.

Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. was added to the field Wednesday. Robert is off to a blistering start with 25 home runs, nearly twice his previous single-season high.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts will compete in the derby for the first time. Betts, who has swatted 23 home runs so far this season, is playing with a bit more at stake than the other competitors, as his mother told him he's not allowed to finish last.

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia was named as the final participant on Wednesday. Garcia has swatted 21 home runs and is nearly a lock to reach the 30-homer plateau for the second time in his career.

Home Run Derby odds movement

Prices have been on the move at our best MLB betting sites since the initial market was first established – though, at this point in the process, those shifts are mostly incremental.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Favorite

Pete Alonso (+350 via Caesars)

Alonso went back-to-back as the Home Run Derby champ in 2019 and 2021 (the 2020 derby was cancelled amid COVID-19). He's on pace for one of his best home run seasons under regular game conditions with 26 round-trippers at the break.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Contender

Luis Robert Jr. (+500 via DraftKings)

Based on his 26 home runs through 89 games played, Robert stands out as a value at +550. His odds are longer than those of Guerrero, who has 13 fewer dingers on the season.

Home Run Derby odds 2023: Long shot

Mookie Betts (+1700 via FanDuel)

It's surprising to see such long odds next to Betts' name in any notable MLB betting market.

He campaigned for himself to participate in this event and as noted above, he has plenty of motivation from his mother. Through just 86 games this season, he's only nine homers back of the career high of 35 he set just last season.
