I think several people already said this:

You sound like you are running away from something. Why would you leave your job, hometown, and family and friends to uproot yourself to live in Vegas and gamble? You could keep your job where you are, and gmble offshore. Perhaps there is a conflict with that because you were in law enforcement. Still, you could have changed your job gradually, with a safety net to fall back on.

I really hope things work out for you, but you have to know the odds are long against you. You might do well to read "The Odds," and see how things will look like in Nevada.

Well, Ive never been to Vegas, so I probably don't have an accurate picture of what its like, but I really don't see why its such a horrible decision to move there. I mean, if he said "Yeah, you know Ive been thinking... and I really just hate my job and need a long break to figure s.hit out... so I'm hitting the road and moving to Kansas City while supporting myself on sports gambling during my getaway..." would people disapprove of his choice as much? I'm just curious, I mean people move all the time, and that's basically all hes really doing. Even deep down I'm sure he knows that he will eventually get a part time job if he wants to stay out there a long time.

The fear of not quitting and watching my system work and loosing out on 85k in sux months?

These are my only two fears and they are battling each other inside my brain all day every day.

Don't mean to poop on anybody's parade... but, dude, your system can work just fine betting from local books, or online books just fine, while keeping a steady job. I don't understand how you magically have plenty of roll by... 1) quitting your job, 2) having to pay rent on a hotel room or apartment (while still paying for where you and your wife live now I assume), 3) what are you going to do about insurance?, and, when your system bottoms out and you're broke what will you do for an income / career at that point?

Dropping everything like a full time job, etc. just because you don't want to look back in 3 years and regret not taking a chance is just dumb. This isn't city slickers - Grow up. You're supposed to be a married MAN for christ's sake. If men dropped everything every time they wanted to do something and were afraid they'd regret it if they didn't "take the chance" there'd be a lot of broken families...

I've been to Vegas a couple times now and believe me, walking the strip, etc. you see plenty of broke ass people selling bottled water for $1.00, beggars holding signs asking for any donation possible... it isn't as pretty / glamorous as you think and I'd hate to see a person give up a good paying job to go try something "on a whim"...

My income is 65k. Due to my wifes salary so I should have no issues there.

I can not bet while keeping my job 1 because its illegal. 2 i can't not cash out my pension unless I quit. I need at lest 25k for me to be successful and it would take at least 5 years to save it at 500 a month. Lastly I will say this only once for fear of being banned. If you play in Vegas on a daily basis and network you WILL have an opportunity at the best lines anywhere. I will say no more about that from my account. If somebody feels like explaining in detail what I am talking about fine.

Lastly don't think i didn't plan every aspect of this decision.

The decision is final. I have done it I have begun the biggest risk of my life. I have completed my resignation letter with the police department and will be handing it in tomorrow morning. I spoke to some of my bosses last week so they are aware I am leaving, but now it will be final. As most of you know and some of you might not, I am going to give professional sports betting a shot. I have planned for almost 3 years and just can’t take it anymore. I must either do it or not do it and get on with my life.
I had a long talk with my wife last month and she gave me the green light under one condition. I stick to the plan and do not deviate when things are going bad. I agreed and we were able to come to an understanding of what would happen. Some of her biggest fears, where things like “What do I tell my friends you do for a living?”. I told her to tell them I had a job lined up at Levis in Henderson. I really feel for her, because I wouldn’t know how to handle it. The crazy part is If I said I was a pro poker player, it might not look so bad. Telling my mother was also very difficult and I know it broke her heart when I said I would be giving up a police pension for a shot at professional sports betting.
Sometimes I think I am crazy and just chasing a dream, while sometimes I feel that dreams are made to be chased and if I don’t try I will regret it for the rest of my life. I have begun to read the book Falling Forward by Jack Maxwell and it is a great book. He is an aspiring author and his blog fight your dreams really inspired me http://johnmaxwellonleadership.com/2...reams-in-2011/ this is a must read.
I will be leaving for Vegas on March 30th and will stay for the first week in a casino until I lock down a low cost furnished apartment close by. I then will stay there until mid-September if all goes good. I will be making frequent trips back to Florida to see the family. It is looking like about 120 after taxes for a one way ticket most times with a week notice.
My bankroll will be around 25k and I will have around 15k locked up at home to fall back on if I do not succeed. I will also be looking for an evening job in Vegas to pay for my Vegas living expenses. Any type of security night club work should be easy for me to get with my background.
I want to thank everyone I have met on the forum and met in person at the bash. Every one of you in one way or another has helped me come to my decision.
I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead of me.

Cashing out me pension is crazy but Damm i am stuck on options.

If i stay i got to work 18 more months to get 30% of 46k for the rest if my life after 55.

That breaks down to 1100a month before taxes 20 years after i retire.

Sounds good on paper.

Or if i have to start over in six months ill have to work 20 to retire and ill be 54.

Basically ill lose 8 years of work.

Or I can stay making my lousy salary with no chance of a raise until the economy improves.

I am a risk taker always have been always will be. Its just me.

I can assure you that unless you are looking to run away from the life that you are living that there is nothing in vegas that offers any special benefit to a professional sports gambler that you can not do at home, you will not find any special lines that you would not find offshore with your money spread across multiple accounts.

No reason why you can not do this from your current residence for 2-3 years and find out just how successful you will be before taking a huge risk like this. Professional gamblers do not gamble unless they know for sure that the odds are in their favor what you are getting ready to do is roll the dice and gamble on a system that looked good on paper over a span of 2 seasons, this is very unprofessional and as a profession it only takes one bad move to ruin your career in this line of work.

As far as systems go..............never mind this has been beaten to death but professionals do not use systems!!!

I say go for it buddy, just remain disciplined and follow a system and you should be fine. I wish you all the luck in the world. Not everyone can do this and it is a very tough way to make a living but some people are better than others and with the right money management I believe you can be successful. If this is true then you are making a huge mistake. People all over the country are losing their jobs and have no pension waiting for them if they can make it to retirement. You are walking away from a recession proof career with a pension waiting for you at the end. You're doing this to chase some system in Vegas where you will be betting into worse lines then online.

Why not stay home, work your job and bet online. The expenses of living in Vegas without a career (security at clubs make next to nothing by the way) will eat up any bankroll you have put aside. There is a lot of stress betting for a living rather then a hobby.

If you were a 21 year old kid with no responsibilites I would say go for it and take your shot. You are married with a great job. Pretty selfish of you to do this in my opinion.
