We NEED a working vaccine before stuff can get back to near normal.
Until then, "social distancing" will be the order of the day and affect EVERYTHING,
including schools, workplace, social gatherings, and sports. Societies will certainly
attempt to resume again, without a vaccine, but it will be far from normal.
And we will be in a deep recession, far worse than what was handed to Obama
when he took office, if not actually in an economic depression, with
chronic "under-employment" - even for a time AFTER they find a vaccine.
The coronavirus KILLS on average one American in every 32 cases,
whereas the common flu kills one American every 752 cases.
Around the world the virus is killing one in every 18 cases...
When businesses (and sports) try to make a go of it later this year, without a vaccine,
we will soon after get a first hand look at how well they can function at any given
time when 10%-50% of their workforce is sick and out for 2 weeks (or worse)

Yes.
First, the National Safety Council stats suggest the average annual rate of death
on the nation's highways is closer to 40,000 (not 45,000)
Second, those 40,000 highway deaths are counted over 365 days.
April 10, the US has almost 17,000 deaths in only 42 days -- and rising!!
Third, those highway deaths, while tragic, are not overwhelming hospitals
and health care stewards and first responders - causing massive HOURLY grief,
stress, national guard call up, hospital ships being mobilized, and rapid
construction of makeshift hospitals and testing centers.
Fourth, the REASON only a tiny fraction of the population is infected with this
contagion is because of the governors and mayors (NOT the Trump administration)
ordering "social distancing" and/or mandatory shelter at home rules.
It is logical that reduced human contact will keep contagions from spreading,
whereas increasing that human contact - without a vaccine - will logically cause
a vastly increased spread of this contagion. Thus, increased deaths. But almost
as bad is the vast increase of hospitalizations (overwhelming the hospitals and
health care system far beyond capacity) plus the volumes of people who
may not die, and may not need hospitalization, but will surely suffer painful illness
-- needlessly -- for at least a week but perhaps 2 or 3 weeks, while at the same time
being quarantined from their loved ones, their job, and likely losing a paycheque.
Surely, with increased spread there WILL BE increased absenteeism at work and places of business with significant impact - possibly debilitating impacts - if the contagion is permitted to run amuck, unfettered by laws to protect people AND business.
We gotta have that vaccine!
