NHL trade deadline frenzy is officially underway thanks to the Montreal Canadiens and the Buffalo Sabres. On Friday, the former acquired forward Eric Staal from the latter. In exchange, the Canadiens are sending a 2021 third-round pick and a 2021 fifth-round pick (both of them their own) to the Sabres. Additionally, Buffalo is retaining 50 percent of Staal’s cap hit.

Sergei Bobrovsky holds a career record of 15-1-1 against the Dallas Stars, following a wild finish to overtime on Saturday's game, won 4-3 by the Florida Panthers, after he made a remarkable save without his stick towards the end of the overtime period.
Bobrovsky has never lost on the road in Dallas.

Brendan Lemieux was traded to the Los Angeles Kings by the New York Rangers on Saturday for a fourth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.
The 25-year-old forward has scored seven points (two goals, five assists) with 59 penalty minutes in 31 games for New York this season. He played 10:29 against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday, his second game of more than 10 minutes since March 13 (eight games).
Lemieux agreed to a two-year, $3.1 million contract ($1.55 million average annual value) with New York as a restricted free agent in the offseason.
"It was a logjam obviously," Rangers coach David Quinn said Sunday. "With [Vitali] Kravtsov here and [Brett] Howden getting healthy and some guys doing well in Hartford (of the American Hockey League), it seemed like the right thing to do and it's going to give [Lemieux] an opportunity to play in a little bit more of a role that he's looking for. He was a good player for us and we're going to miss him."
Lemieux has scored 43 points (22 goals, 21 assists) with 299 penalty minutes in 162 games in five NHL seasons with the Rangers and Winnipeg Jets. He is fifth in the NHL in penalties drawn (80) since 2018-19.
Lemieux was junior teammates with Kings forwards Gabriel Vilardi and Andreas Athanasiou.
The Rangers have nine picks in the 2021 draft, including three in the fourth round.
DALLAS -- Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad was taken off the ice on a stretcher with a left leg injury midway through the second period against the Dallas Stars on Sunday.
An aircast was applied to Ekblad's left leg. Minutes earlier, Ekblad got caught up with Stars defenseman Esa Lindell in the corner following a hit from Lindell.

Earlier today, Darren Dreger of TSN tweeted that Buffalo GM Kevyn Adams has spoken to multiple teams about a Hall trade and now we may know what he was saying. Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that the initial asking price for Hall involves a first-round pick, though the insider suggests it will be difficult to even get that at this point. Staal only landed the team a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick, even with Buffalo retaining half of his already relatively low cap hit. That retention will likely have to happen for Hall too regardless of where he goes, given how expensive his one-year deal is.

The Vancouver Canucks had three additional games postponed by the NHL on Thursday, through April 6, due to COVID-19 protocol.
Canucks games at the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, and at the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday and Tuesday, have been postponed, in addition to the home game against the Calgary Flames that was postponed Wednesday.
Vancouver is next scheduled to play April 8 at Calgary. The Canucks cannot return to practice before April 6. Rescheduled dates have not been announced.
Forward Adam Gaudette, defenseman Travis Hamonic, and a member of their coaching staff are in NHL COVID-19 protocol.
"I guess there's always reminders as far as the importance of your safety, and following the guidelines and the rules that the League has set forth," Vancouver coach Travis Green said Wednesday morning. "And not just the League, but the government."
Gaudette was added to the protocol list Tuesday after what Green said was a positive test for the virus. Hamonic was officially added Thursday.
Vancouver has not played since last Wednesday, a 5-1 loss to Winnipeg after being shut out by them 4-0 two days before.
"We've had six days off prepping for a game here," Green said. "We've tried to just stay focused on that task, and let the people in charge that advise us on the protocols let us know if there's anything else changing."
Calgary remains scheduled to play at the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
Vancouver's road trip ends with scheduled games at Calgary on April 10, and at Edmonton on April 12 and 14.
"Whether we have someone that gets it or not, everyone is trying their best to abide by the protocols," Vancouver forward J.T. Miller said. "The timing is obviously not great -- there's no good timing -- but it doesn't change anything. No matter what the circumstances, no one wants to get it, not one wants to spread it, nothing changes."
Miller and Vancouver defenseman Jordie Benn were sidelined at the start of the season due to COVID-19 protocol. Benn missed six games; Miller missed three.
"It's not ideal, obviously," Miller said. "Everybody is trying to do the right things to not have the situation happen. [Adam's] is different than mine. I didn't have it. I don't know 100 percent his situation, but in the sense of having to sit out and be away from your team, especially in a hard time of the year, it's not ideal, but everybody is trying to do their best to make sure they are following protocol and make sure we don't spread it. ...
"Things like this are probably going to happen over the course of a season with a lot of players, and hopefully we can minimize the damage here, and hopefully [Adam] isn't feeling too poorly."
Eight games in the Scotia North Division have been postponed this season, all since March 22. The Montreal Canadiens had four home games postponed due to COVID-19 protocol from March 22-28.
There have been 50 games postponed since the NHL season began Jan. 13, including 45 because of protocol. Five games have been postponed because of weather-related issues.
Five more Canucks players have been added to the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list.
Alex Edler, Braden Holtby, Quinn Hughes, Zack MacEwen, and Antoine Roussel joined Adam Gaudette and Travis Hamonic on Friday’s update. Gaudette has been on since Tuesday, while Hamonic was added on Thursday.
The NHL announced on Thursday that Canucks games through April 6 have been postponed. The expectation as of now is that the team will resume their schedule next Thursday, with Tuesday being a target date to return to practice.

The Detroit Red Wings came away with two points and a boost to their confidence from weekend games against the defending Stanley Cup champions.
They used a hardworking effort Sunday to bank a 5-1 victory, their first regular-season victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena since Feb. 17, 2011 — the Wings were 0-16-1 since. It’s the second win in six contests this season for the Wings (13-22-5) against the Bolts.

Prominent players like Buffalo’s Taylor Hall and goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Devan Dubnyk seem likely to move, but even hockey’s most seasoned executives aren’t sure what to expect before the clock strikes 3 p.m. Eastern on April 12.
“There’s so much unknown because of the cap,” New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello said. “The cap is going to be flat next year. So any contract that you take on that is more than one year is going to disrupt whatever you’re doing next year and will put you in worse shape. So that complicates the matter without the cap increases, but it’s the same for everyone.”
The seven Canadian teams are in a “tougher spot,” Toronto GM Kyle Dubas acknowledged, because of a weeklong mandatory quarantine for any player acquired from the U.S. That’s half the quarantine imposed earlier this season but still makes it more difficult to swallow paying a hefty price for a player who might be available for only 10 regular-season games before the playoffs begin.

Brendan Gallagher will be out indefinitely after the Montreal Canadiens forward broke his right thumb in a 3-2 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers at Bell Centre on Monday.
Gallagher left the game at 13:28 of the first period shortly after he was struck by a shot by Canadiens defenseman Alexander Romanov.
"He's the engine. He really is," goalie Jake Allen said. "You know what you're getting from 'Gally' every game. He's going to be in the hard areas. He's going to do the things that you know you need to do and pay the price to win. And don't get me wrong, those are really tough shoes to fill, but I think we have a lot of guys in this room that can really fill that."
Gallagher has scored 23 points (14 goals, nine assists) in 35 games this season.
"It's tough. He's a warrior in front of the net, and these kinds of things might happen through the season," Montreal forward Tomas Tatar said after the game Monday. "Obviously, he will be missed, and we have to do everything we can and battle and get as many points until he gets back, and hopefully he will be ready to play for us."
Jesperi Kotkaniemi will take Gallagher's place at right wing on a line with center Phillip Danault and left wing Tomas Tatar against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, RDS).
The Canadiens (17-9-9) are fourth in the seven-team Scotia North Division, eight points ahead of the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames. The top four teams will make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Gallagher missed 18 games in 2016-17 following surgery on his left hand after he was hit by a shot from Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber against the Dallas Stars on Jan. 4, 2017. He missed 17 games the previous season after he broke two fingers on his left hand blocking a shot by New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk on Nov. 22, 2015.
"It's obviously unfortunate news for 'Gally' but when a door closes, another one opens for someone else," Allen said. "So it's just the way you've got to look at it, it's next man up."
Montreal goalie Carey Price is day to day with a lower-body injury and will not travel to Toronto. Price made 21 saves against the Oilers and finished the game but appeared to be dealing with an injury.
"It's something that has been carrying on for a little bit of time," Canadiens coach Dominique Ducharme said. "We just want to make sure he can take care of it and come back being 100 percent."
Goalie Cayden Primeau will make the trip to Toronto along with Allen, who will start against the Maple Leafs.

Boone Jenner is expected to be out the rest of the regular season for the Columbus Blue Jackets after the forward had surgery Wednesday to repair a broken finger.
"'Jens' is done," Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said on 97.1 WBNS-FM on Wednesday. "He's [out] five or six weeks now, it's a broken finger. So he's done, which is a huge blow for us."
Jenner was injured after being hit in the hand by a shot a from teammate Patrik Laine at 12:32 of the third period of a 4-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
He is expected to need about six weeks to recover; the Blue Jackets are scheduled to play their final regular-season game May 8.
Jenner scored 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 41 games this season. He has scored 240 points (121 goals, 119 assists) in 530 games with the Blue Jackets.
"He's invaluable to our team, just what he does, and he plays the hard minutes," captain Nick Foligno said. "He's a guy that never complains. You're almost in awe of him as a teammate, as somebody especially that's been able to watch him, what he's able to turn himself into as a player and how important he is on our team. It hurts when you lose a player like that.
"Everybody has to step up, and it's magnified more by the minutes that he eats. And if it's me that has to eat more, I'm willing to do that for him, because he's done the hard minutes for our team. I'm sure other guys would step up and do the same because of how important he is and what he means to us and how much we love him as a teammate and as a person. That's the best way we can show him how much he means to us, is by all stepping up and pulling on the same rope the way he would and eating some of the hard minutes that he eats."
Columbus also is without forward Riley Nash, who is expected to be out 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee. Nash, who has scored seven points (two goals, five assists) in 37 games this season, was injured in the second period of a 3-0 loss to the Florida Panthers on Sunday. He was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday.
Tortorella also said forward Jack Roslovic and defenseman Seth Jones are "a little banged up" and their status for a home game against the Lightning on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; BSOH, BSSUN, NHL.TV) would be decided after the morning skate.
Roslovic had a goal and an assist in 15:16 of ice time on Tuesday. Jones had an assist and led Columbus with 22:12 of ice time.
The Blue Jackets (15-18-8) are sixth in the eight-team Discover Central Division, five points behind the fourth-place Nashville Predators. The top four teams in the division will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac were traded to the New York Islanders by the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.
New Jersey receives forwards A.J. Greer and Mason Jobst, a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Palmieri and Zajac can each become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
The NHL’s Vancouver Canucks say 25 members of the organization have tested positive for the coronavirus, including 21 players. The team was shut down last week, and it’s uncertain when it will play its next game. In a statement attributed to team doctor Jim Bovard and infectious disease doctor Josh Douglas, the Canucks say the COVID-19 cases stem from a variant of the virus that was traced by Vancouver Coastal Health back to one individual contracting it in a public setting
