hawley- i've had this problem for 10 years. it cost me my education, my fiance/wife, 2 cars, legal trouble, 2 jobs, 100's of thousands of dollars, a bankruptcy, friends, being homeless twice, the inability to open another checking account or to get a loan or CC (maybe in time)....my whole family doesnt trust me - i havent spoken to my mom in 3 years. my dad talks to me but he will never give me money. i could go on and on. and i'm overweight and smoked for 12 years. i hate it and it sucks.

Have you ever hung around bookies? Bookies all think their clients are either inferior to them, addicted degenerates or scumbag pieces of shat if one happens to beat them on a consistent basis. They couldn't care less if a client went and offed himself unless he provided a decent padding to their bottom line. They might offer pseudo concern if he hasn't paid his tab though. Don't expect a different attitude from this forum. Where do you think the money comes from? You think it's in their best interest for players to win?

Gamblers are a bit better because the amateur ones actually might offer a modicum of concern but by and large the game hardens them too over time. Which might explain why there is a higher distribution of republican/libertarians on all gambling forums (I have no real political opinions about any group but you would think a 50-50ish distribution would be present given voting populations).

I know personally over the years I've had to harden or I'd have gotten torn apart. You have to develop this split personality where one side wants to get every edge possible but if you let it take over you'll be a miserable person to be around. So on the one hand I do care if this guy offs himself and hopes he gets help but the other side of me is wondering how I could get some of his affiliate sportsbook/casino accounts. It's a tough business. I try to spend the least amount time around gamblers as possible. I was at the LV Club early one morning chatting with Mel Exber while he was copying the lines onto his grease board. Yes, he was a hands-on man, old school.
