What a great job of acting to make every one hate the character so much. Loved it when his head got smashed. That was Chase's version of revenge porn.

Yes. Phil was a despicable character. Having watched a lot of Frank Vincent tape, it felt like he barely had to "act" to perform that role.

OK, been reading up on my Sopranos. Re: the "Made in America" episode that closed the show, there's enough evidence out there. My mind is made up...Tony was killed in the final scene.

OK, that's not a revelation. But let's consider some details and symbolism. This stuff is pretty hard to refute:

    1) In the restaurant (Holsten's), notice how many times the bell rings and the video switches to Tony's 1st person vantage point. Meadow entering and the screen going BLACK...means that Tony is gone.

    2) The foreshadowing is there. Best episode that set it up was the one where Tony and Bobby Bacala were fishing. "When it happens...you probably never hear it."

    3) Chase hits the viewer over the head with tie-out symbols in the last episodes. In rehab, AJ is watching an Abe Lincoln special on TV:
*Who killed Lincoln? JW Booth. Tony is sitting in a BOOTH.
*WHERE is Lincoln killed? FORD Theatre. What car is Phil's old lady driving? A Ford...and it's shown 10x when Phil is whacked.
*Not sure...but the Make/Model may actually be a Ford Lincoln.

    4) I can't take credit for the Rihannon connection. But a Youtuber did a great job on revealing the Rihannon connection. First off, what's she doing in Rehab? She has model-good looks and is in good health. She's a plant...to seduce the low-IQ AJ. And Tony is trying to build up AJ w/ the bullshit talk of "you're a great guy, you're smart etc."

    5) Rihannon is a low-fiber girl. Note that she's BLOWING that Hernan dude within 10 minute of meeting him. She'll do anything for $$ or any other benefit.

    6) Rihannon (the model) is on the wall of the New York mob gang. It's her, the actress Emily Wickersham.

    7) Rihannon is the only one in the room when Carmella announces that they'll be eating at Holsten's that nite.

    8) The Fleetwood Mac song "Rihannon" is played in an earlier Sopranos episode.

    9) Want another Rihannon connection to the ending? Think about this one. Chase blacks out the scene with the Journey song stopping on "Don't Stop..." That's another Fleetwood Mac song ("Don't Stop").

Rihannon is indeed the setup girl. She's the link that gets the info at 3pm to tip off New York that they'll be eating at Holsten's at 8pm. Also, Tony and Carmella make some lame comments as she's leaving the safe-house. Poor security when a mob-war is ongoing.

It's clear to me that the "Members Only" Jacket guy whacked Tony with a gun planted in the bathroom. Ala the Michael Corleone scene in "The Godfather". I really only have two questions:

    1) What exactly was the connection between Rihannon and the New York mob? Is it possible that Rihannon modelled under Little Carmine's agency? Therefore, Rihannon would have loyalty to Little Carmine. Is there some blood relation from Rihannon to one of the NY mob-guys? Or does Rihannon have some ax to grind w/ AJ from their previous encounters?

    2) Who is the "Members Only" guy? He has to be the shooter. And his visual looks a lot like Eugene. Is there any chance that's Eugene's cousin from the Aunt's inheritance? Eugene bent over backwards to buy his way out of that life. Instead he TOOK his own life.

David Chase confirmed that Yes, Tony got whacked.

What he did was more artistic. Instead of this mob boss going face down in his spaghetti he did a creative, artistic ending to his series/ character

Somebody, somewhere should write a sequel. 1st episode could be precisely how Tony died.

Ya. Logistically, a lot of the people have passed in real life.

Would have to be a next-generation Sopranos. If someone could figure it out, it would surely be a money-maker.

Who would be the lead character? AJ is clearly not boss-material...unless it's a comedy.

A lot of characters whacked off the show. I have a hard time even thinking of who a valid PROTAGONIST would be.

In real life somebody picks up the pieces. Might be good stuff on a theoretical struggle for control.

Tony Saprano types may or could exist more than we realize???

AJ as boss, his video game pals as his 'crew', Meadow as Consigliere, Carmela as the one that has to phone Furio and ask him to bring himself and some real gangsters + his sausage back to NJ

    Not bad, Bosc!

Remember when the Sicilian dude told Furio that the only way was to whack Tony to get with Carmella. Any chance the "Members Only" outsider was Sicilian?
If AJ wasn't such a dork (and bad actor)...I'd give it a chance. Meadow is MOSTLY a nice person. If she had offspring, she surely learned to steer clear of that life.

Time is a bitch. A lot of the Sopranos cast died of natural causes. A few (like Junior and Paulie) are alive but really only plausible as a "Feech La Manna" veteran type.

I have one candidate that I'll post later. You might laugh at the suggestion.

    It's so hit and miss

First few seasons great w Tony/ Melfi

Then they focused on the non family characters like Pauli & Silvio and it got dumb....they weren't believable.

Then last couple years it got good again.

Bosco, here is my reply re: how the next episode might play out. First question: Is it a series? Or a movie?

There's a reason the PRE-quel was made and not the sequel. There are so many whackings that very few guys are left. The focus was on character development of the old guard. Really NOT a lot of focus on the youngsters.

And those that were prospects faded away. Jackie Jr and sidekick Dino, dumb and dead. Matt Bevilaqua and sidekick, dumb and dead.

How bout this for open to the new Sopranos movie? Little Carmine driving in a nice car and stereo is playing Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop...thinking about tomorrow".

What if Little Carmine's malapropisms were an act? What if he was actually cunning and wanted enemies to clear each other out? If the new version of Little Carmine was a decisive boss with a steely edge, I'd watch it.

Little Carmine could run the New York family. That still leaves the New Jersey family. Sorry, I don't buy AJ. If he got his acting skill up to the point that he could pull that off...I'd be thoroughly impressed.

Forgot about Little Carmine's malapropisms. Forgot that word too.

I remember he called Johnny Sac a "poseur".

Worst mob movie ever had to be the Brooklyn Banker.

They called up Paul Sevino (gotta be 85) atta retirement.

The recruited Richie Aprile and Carlo from The Sopranos.

It was good, but Breaking Bad had more WTF moments that made you jump up off your ass.

When Walter ran over those 2 guys in the soccer mom van and then told Jessie to run. I was mesmerized.

Roscoe, Little Carmine was really funny. I really think there's an angle that he was doing that on purpose. He liked how it lowered expectations on him.

He actually called TONY a "poseur". It was on the golf-course, after Carmine Sr said that Tony was so decisive that he'd be proud to call him his own son.

In that SAME SCENE, Johnny Sac and Little Carmine have an awesome exchange:

JOHNNY SAC: "This thing with Tony, huh?"

    LITTLE CARMINE: "Total DEB-a-cull."
