Guess nyplayer didn't get the memo that we'd moved on from hip-hop.

Speaking of that, I wonder how many casual readers have had or will have the patience to go through this whole thread and check out all the wildly different selections! It would please me to think that at least some have.

Actually, I need to go back and check 'em all out again myself, because Rule #1 of Capy's Rules of Music Appreciation is the following:

CRMA #1) One must listen to any piece of music three full times before rendering a judgment. Many times songs simply don't click until that third listen. If you still hate something or aren't into at all after three listens, then I will happily accept your judgment.

haha, that's a good one man. three times...you would be lucky if the average person in 2012 made it past the 15 second mark of anything that didn't IMMEDIATELY grab them...

Very sad, brother, very sad. That's why I try to spread my gospel to all who'll listen!

It's a foolproof, battle-tested argument that I can vouch for myself! Happens constantly. You hear something and are like "That blows," or "I don't get it," or "That does nothing for me," and then you hear it again and are like "Well, I guess it's not terrible,"...then you hear it again and are like "You know, I actually kind of like that." Man, some of my favorite music ever I did not like at first. My first memory of this is with the Yes records from the early 70s (which I was exposed to in the early 80s) -- Close to the Edge; Fragile; and Tales from Topographic Oceans. The music is so complex that you just don't "get it" right away. Once your brain begins to assimilate the melody, suddenly it's a very rewarding experience!!!

It's just the way our brains work when it comes to the satisfaction we derive from music. I don't actually even WANT to demystify the way music "works," but I believe it has to do with tension and resolution... it's more or less all mathematics, at its core.

but to the original poster, I don't know much about dance/house... I'll give it a listen though.

feel like i'd need to be on E to fully enjoy that kind of music.

    Yes!! Royksopp = the truth

fun fact: t'was back in late '05, one of my first "big gigs" playing to 1200+ people, was tons of hype around me headlining that night in the weeks leading up because I was this new guy who had gathered a big following in not very long time & there was no big international headliner that night so I had the main set with guys that had been DJ'ing for 10+ years warming up for me.

Anyway place was at capacity & I got on at 1.a.m scheduled to play for 2 hours & the first 3 or 4 tracks I had the crowd going but the vibe was just ok, everyone was dancing just not really letting it all out yet, wasn't 'pumping' yet basically. Anyways out of nowhere decided to drop thetrentemoller remix of royksopp - what else is there? (a single off that 2nd record you mentioned & still probably their biggest hit 'til this day) & the place went absolutely nuts, one of the best atmospheres I've ever seen in a club & I've seen & played alongside many big international acts before, people had heard the original song as the album came out a few months prior & some DJ's had given it a fair bit of play but no one had played that particular remix yet (got it on promo, so hadn't been released yet) they knew the words itself but were just having eargasms at the remix I played, I'd cut the sound for a second or 2 during some parts in the vocal breakdown & you could hear hundreds of people singing along/yelling the lyrics, was epic, one of best feelings I've ever experienced doin' my thing up there, probably because it was the first time I had the crowd in my hand at a big gig so won't forget it & probably reason why I can still recall it, that particular remix ended up being one of the biggest club tracks worldwide in 2006.

Anyways, enough story time, cute & all but getting too deep there - now continuing on with the royksopp topic will post up a couple of gems from the knife, with one half of them providing the vocals for what else is there & also feature on a bunch of other royksopp stuff. I'm guessing you've probably already heard of them but just in case you need a reminder to re-visit here's some samples to wet your appetite el-capy
    I love me some synth-pop!

They do a great live show too, was different visuals when I saw them here but basically they looked like they were floating.

Good stuff, Showtiime... fukkin celeb in here among us! U still playing big shows? What's your DJ name? Where do you even live, by the way, LA?

Anyway, good story, I can def feel you there, nothing like getting a crowd going. I actually have been on stage myself, used to do a fair amount of stand-up. Prob should still be doing it but got out of it for various reasons, but always did great. My claim to fame is that I made the final two in this big comedy competition years and years ago and my co-finalist was Dane Cook! Haha. Decent guy too, or he was back then. Maybe if I'd beat him in the finals, I'd be banging Jessica Alba now or something.

    Anyway, back to it...

Can't believe in a thread that started as a party/dance-music thread, we have no shoutouts to who are in my opinion the GODFATHERS of modern techno/dance music, the Chemical Brothers. This is still my fave cut ever, from back before they changed their name and were still The Dust Brothers. I used to go apeshit to this song in my rrom, how can you NOT want to dance your ass off to this?! Which is funny since big beat/breakbeat stuff NEVER got or gets played in clubs, only 4x4 beats (please explain that, by the way, bro!). I would put their debut, Exit Planet Dust, up against just about any dance music CD for getting a party going. Certainly up there with Daft Punk-Discovery and my original Post #1 pick! ...And here we go:

have been on the same bill as the chem brothers twice cap! Met briefly backstage nothing more, their live show is epic! I could name drop to hell n back & sound like a complete dick but I'll try to keep that to a minimum

Don't want to drop my name either as I like to troll a bit here & there & revealing my identity isn't somethin' I should do but in saying that, not from LA, from syd, aus, good music scene here, at least in my city anyway, had cheapened lately but used to be good not long ago

these are few friends that have produced good music out of my city since I've been around

awesome video, girl is mega cute

girls vibe to this shit but it's catchy as hell too

I like it, Showtiime, you guys are making some good shite over there in Sydney. Especially liked that Bag Raiders song.

And DAMN, you have some fine women! Chick in the first vid is fukkin adorable! And then the one in the second one is sexy as hell too!

    Okay, calming down...

So viciously switching the vibe up yet again, I fukking love this one. Check it out, here you have a blues-rock/country/pop ICON doing a REGGAE-ed cover of an early 70s pop hit from a Scottish singer-songwriter!! Haha. Sounds fukked, but it works, I LOVE it! No matter what genres are your thing, you gotta respect Bonnie Raitt. She is the bomb; 62 and still bringing it with that trademark voice and emotion. And of course guitar-slinging.

    Cool.

Guessing you know Junk Culture? This is a cool track. If you can deal with the 30 seconds of just cut-up vocals from 1:30 to 2:00, I really like where it goes after that.

capy had heard of them but hadn't actually "listened" if you know what I mean, will now although can only find an EP.. & you're right, 2 mins drop onwards is sex, they're raping that sample & i don't even wanna report the crime

will stay with the french vibe I had with last post (oizo) & addin' sebastiAn

as seen here, his sound has evolved a bit since he released his first record when I started spinnin' (05) although you can pretty much hear the same kick & snare throughout his work although older stuff it's much more prevalent

    sounds like this now

    used to sound like this

singling out kelis remix from while back as you definitely would've heard of original so can kinda understand how he flips it, has many remixes, youtube search - walking machine, golden skans & sexual sportswear remixes & you'll have him pretty much figured out

Well I was thinking there was a good chance it was a joke, since you'd have to be "fukd uP 4 Real, Bitch," as Lil B might say, to actually LIKE that crap..... but, just as in the thread you linked to, there's nothing to indicate it for sure! I don't know this Lost Bankroll (unless I do and forgot), so who knows. I can tell you there are threads in here with dick-bitch-ho rap vids, so there's definitely an audience for some serious profanity over a basic beat accompanied by lots of bling and tats.

had to be a joke, it came out of nowhere, linked thread was basically a cat fight over who knows more about books then outta nowhere bam! actually was probably one of the funnier things I've ever seen on here, so left field, tickled my funny bone

capy what you think about ol' seb, obviously that stuff is more club friendly than easy listening but in saying that I would've played a fair bit of seb' back in my busier days, definitely got people movin'

lostbr completely bombing thread, no turning back from here, was fun while it lasted i guess

c'mon loster yes it was hilarious in the hareeba thread out of nowhere but the joke has expired now, i guess the fact that it was given some chuckles in here may have got to your head a bit, although i will say.. i give you a single clap sir!

on the other hand, there's a big chance you may well just openly love, support & tout the worst "rapper" in history
second thought I'm calling that a lock as no one could be so lame in overkill, so leaning towards you are #1 fan, if this is the case & my worst fears are realized, i offer my condolences

loster nick mccarthy (guy'ing in your avatar) would do better hip hop than lil' b, could even throw ron paul & perhaps ghandi in that same boat as both most likely possess more musical talent than the one you worship

still not completely sold on if you're being serious

lo$ter ea$y que$tion for the homey, are you black? i'm noticing lots of ebonics just checking some of your posts, so either you want to be black, or you've already achieved it & want to proclaim it to the world?

but it's also doubtful a black guy would have even half a clue who the people are in your avatar

Showtiime, I think you're approaching this wrong. If we want to rescue our beloved thread from the evil clutches of the enemy, if we want to save it for the free and just and virtuous music-loving folk of SBR, we mustn't provoke this new-found enemy. It is his will to engage us in battle. We must accept that we are not invincible, that we can be attacked -- then simply brush it off with a smile on our faces, undeterred!

As for whether or not his contributions are a joke or not, we'd never know for sure either way, because he either is who he says he is, or if not, he's gonna stay "in character" and say he is anyway! So I say we just carry on. And if you're reading this, Bankroll, I'm asking you as a man just to post your vids in some other threads and let us be. Thanks, bud!

Actually, those vids have inspired me to add an ironic "response" at the top of the next page -- the hilarious Windowlicker!!! Aw yeahhhh!

As an ironic response to the bizarre contributions of LB on the previous page, I offer up this hilarious vid! Good song on its own, but the video is hilarious, strange, disturbing, and pretty much awesome. Aphex Twin and director Chris Cunningham are a brutal combo (as seen in the creepy-as-hell Rubber Johnny vid I posted in a separate thread). Enjoy!!
