Spent the afternoon/nite at the Rio. Will post some tournament notes in the Strategy thread.

Saw several of the big-name players:

    * AutoDonk called David Benaymine the "fat guy." Benaymine has indeed put on some lbs. I was walking behind him and he eclipsed the sun.

    * Shawn Deeb is also a fat bastard. I think he's 22 weeks pregnant.

    * I talked w/ Dario SAmmartino. I showed him my Italy Totti jersey and spoke w/ him for a minute.

    * Also talked w/ the red-head guy who won w/ Royal Flush vs AAAA. Asked him "Make any Royals lately?"

Walked past several other name players like Esfandiari and Robert Mizrachi.

The one guy I want to talk to this week is Elky. Great player and hilarious guy.

Finally confirmed my room. Went with the Downtown Grand since I was able to redeem it for double points on Expedia (and it appears to be one of the nicer rooms down there).

One week from today men....I am pumped!

spirit does suck real bad, but i am not ashamed to admit that I have flown them to Vegas from Houston about 3 times for around $40 each way plus 1 bag.

I refuse to spend any money on hotels in Vegas and likewise dont spend it on Airfare either I guess.

Have you ever went to the Machine Gun ranges? I have always wanted to do that and will do it this time. I hope that it doesnt cost too much more than $100 though

    $199 Outdoor Package

    From: $199.00

Why shoot one gun when you can experience a variety of them? Set your eye on exploding tannerite targets as you wield the Glock, followed by the MP5 and the M4.

If what you look for in a gun range is a quaint, indoor lane with a couple handguns, then Machine Guns Vegas isn’t for you. But if you have the desire to feel the power of the world’s wildest guns, a Las Vegas shooting range outdoors is just the thing you want.
For the $399 Outdoor Package, you get a curbside pickup at one of these premier Vegas hotels: Aria, Excalibur, and Treasure Island. From there, you make your way out to our Las Vegas shooting range outdoors in the gorgeous Mojave Desert.
For this package, you’re going right into the heavy hitters—10 rounds with the notorious 1911, 40 rounds with the M249 SAW, and 25 rounds each with the MP5 and AK-47. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to place 3 tannerite exploding targets on the range. Nothing compares to the boom of connecting a bullet with a can of explosives and watching a giant flame climb into the air.
Be ready for pickup at 9:00 AM or 1:30 PM and have your trigger finger warmed up and ready to go.

    • Please book two days in advance, by purchasing online
    • Available 7 days a week at 9:00 AM or 1:30 PM
    • Packages are priced per person & guns are subject to availability

*Please note that during the summer, our Outdoor Range packages are only available at 7:30 AM.

Well I have seen the discounts offered for one of those and Ithought that it was around $100, but that was last year. I wont need the curbside pickup since I have already rented a car.

I actually have a semiautomatic gun, but it is rather old and just doesnt cut it anymore.

I looked into doing a machine gun shoot last time I was there... headline offers are all bullshit and include basically one pull of the trigger worth of ammo.

A proper experience was going to be $800+

I was thinking at that price might be smarter to find a local to buy a new machine gun and 1000 rounds and just let them keep it afterward!

There is also a cool experience where you can drive a tank over cars and fire the mounted guns on it... think that was about $2000-$3000 by the time you added on enough ammo as well.

I think that the prices came down a bit after most of the locals had a chance to do it for a year or so. I have fired a few semiautomatic rifles in my life, but some of the ones that I saw on a video on youtube were better than those.

Optional, i sent you a link to ALL (well that would be impossible, but these are the best tournaments) of the poker tournaments this year in Vegas. I have studied all of these tournaments since around May 5th or so and have spent many, many hours plotting out a plan. I of course factored in cheap airfare and the free rooms in the equation to figure out which ones are the most +EV for me.

What you guys might want to do is copy all of the tournaments for these days that you will be there and put it in Microsoft word. Then make it font 8 or so and that will cut down the # of pages to around 8 or so. This will allow you guys to better attack Vegas from a poker perspective.

If you guys want to fire machine guns then join the military and get paid to do it. You'll get to fire the 50 cal, 60 cal, M16, grenades, claymore mines, anti tank weapon (LAWS), etc. Its a great feeling to get behind a machine gun. The shitty part comes when you have to break it down and clean it.

    A couple of thoughts:

Bring a light jacket in case your poker room is a freezer...I'd say that 30% of players wear a jacket/sweatshirt.
You really don't want to buy one in the gift shop for an arm and a leg.

All of you should check out
www.bravopokerlive.com/venues/ and put the app on your phone.
You can filter results by State, but it is best to enter "89103" in the Zip Code box and "6" in the Search Radius box. Click the "Apply Filters" button and you'll have all the rooms in Vegas that might interest you, including the Golden Nugget.

You can see how many tables are going at each poker room...the game types being spread, blinds, how many on the waiting list, etc. When you click on a specific room you will need to log in using your Facebook, Yahoo, or any of several such sites. Once you are logged in and have clicked on the room you're interested in, you will see the phone number to call and put your name on the waiting list (you will stay on the list for an hour...never just walk in, that's -EV ). You can also click on the "tournaments" tab in each room and learn what tourneys they have... buyins, structure, etc.

The rake has gone up around town...Bellagio (and I guess the Aria) went to $5. The Mirage is $5 rake + $2 jackpot. That's $7 on every pot >=$50...tough to beat a 1/2 game like that for a decent hourly rate. Harrah's is $5 + $1 jackpot. Caesar's Palace is the only $4 rake that I know of... it's 1/2 blind.

If you want to see the famous players, the best spot is Bellagio. Today the high limit room was jammed.
Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen, Johnny Chan and many others were there.

Bellagio is a good place to play if you want to change games/limits. They have 8 tables IN the sportsbook and have 1/3 and 2/5 NLH games there. Play poker and watch a game on the big screens...you can get a bet down in less than a minute without missing a hand.

I wish you all good luck and I hope to put a face with your SBR username.

    Good stuff, OneUnd.

I crossed paths w/ a couple of the name players today:

    * Saw Igor Kourganov and congratulated him on winning the bracelet.

    * Spoke w/ Jennifer Tilly for a minute. Said I enjoyed her work in the Richard Dreyfus movie and wished her good luck w/ the cards.

I have "knocked" Jennifer Tilly out of 2 tournaments within the last 12 months. She does a ton of table talk within the hand. A few players called the floor about her table talk at one tournament and they warned her. The main reason why those guys called the floor was because she called clock on 2 other players in hands where she had folded. And to be honest I didnt think that they had taken a lot of time.

I personally would never call clock in a hand where I had folded. I dont think that I have ever called clock as a matter of fact

Tilly has an unfair advantage in poker. She always starts w/ a Big Pair.

I'd be more impressed if u knocked her UP...instead of knocked her OUT.

"name players". Chucky you're still stuck in 2005 looking at poker players like some kind of celebs. Only celebs are Phil H. and Matusow and that has nothing to do with their poker play.

Beerdog and mpas, there is a new brewery in downtown Henderson called Lovelady Brewing Co. It opened around a year ago shortly before I left Vegas. Never got a chance to stop in but have heard a lot of good things..
