I too am in IA and have heard similar things. Even if not it's quick hop for me over to a neighboring state that does have it. *hopefully* they get it passed here though

As of 1 hour ago, we have a brand new status quo. Too many states want this to stay legal so I just don't see Congress upending the (new) status quo.

Agreed, and I think ESPN can actually have gambling based programming. It'll probably be trash like everything else on their network, but people will watch it now

Nope. I worked for a tribe. They could have done sports betting whenever they wanted but they would have violated negotiated compacts with whichever state they are in. The federal government does not regulate their gambling activities, only how the money gets reported.

The Lottery can't be happy about this. The Lottery's payout is approximately 50%. Offshore Sportsbooks payout is approximately 95%. What will legalized Sportbetting payout be? In many places in the U.S. The Lottery has had a monopoly on gambling. I can't imagine that it would want ANY competition. If legalized sportsbetting happens in the U.S. and they allow parlay bets it's virtually the same as playing the Lottery with a better payout. I would think this would hurt the Lottery's business. Like some other posters have basically said... I'll believe it when I see it.

People keep talking about this but this is so far removed from what the ruling is. Is it theoretical? Yes. But it requires very strict laws that vary BY STATE.

I'm not sure why this got to be a talking point on the radio this AM. Most sports shows know even less than I ever thought about sports ... and particularly sports wagering.

I worked for a tribe too, and you're wrong.

Think about it logically: If tribes could legalize sports gambling whenever they wanted to, dont'cha think at least one of them out there would have..?

This was the most clearly unconstitutional law on the books, and it was by far. The law is unequivocal about this, and we even had a weird carve out (Vegas) that made PASPA completely nonsensical from the beginning.

There is absolutely no point in the 10th Amendment (yes, the last of the BILL OF RIGHTS) if you don't have even a minimalist interpretation of States rights. These justices literally invent shit out of thin air. It's beyond laughable.

Let me just point out one other thing:

There is currently a FEDERAL LAW/BAN on marijuana. Yet the DOJ under the Obama administration ordered its agency to not execute the law. That was grounds for immediate impeachment on very obvious, legal terms and assumptions. Yet this PASPA law, never made any sense to begin with, was constantly rejected at lower courts? It shows you that in law, very little sense takes place.

I'm glad that this finally was a victory for Constitutional integrity. As usual for all issues, the debate on whether it is good for society or a state is totally irrelevant to the Constitution and what it says about the issue. That, as stated in the Constitution, should be left to the states, or the people as in the tenth amendment:

    X.
"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people."

Yeah, I'm in Iowa. I think it will get passed pretty quickly. The current govt is really looking for $. I'm about an hour or so from any casino. Lots of casinos in Iowa though. You can never have too many outs. I might have to move across the street from one of them Hopefully they do mobile. It's just to early to tell. One thing I do know, is that I'm not going to lay -110 when I can get -105.

I just hope this doesn't make it harder to bet offshore, although I haven't been doing too much of that lately. My local is the one that is going to get screwed.

If you have a state that allows online poker, you will see this on your computer fairly soon (end of decade at least). If you have a state with brick and mortar casinos, they will have sports books within a few years. Laws still signed passed etc. So it will take time. Only NJ and DE will be this year IMO.

Only happening in Jersey.. Calm down people.. Baby steps.. I don't live in Jersey and most of you clowns don't either..

    SCOTUS impacts on sports betting

The real-world applications of the verdict:

New Jersey can now move forward with its plans to legalize wagering. Some gaming facilities in the state have indicated it could be just a matter of weeks until sportsbooks are operations.

West Virginia sports betting and Mississippi sports betting are also prepared to move forward with laws on the books.

So can Pennsylvania, which legalized sports wagering in 2017. A PA sports betting rollout there is up in the air, but could come later this year.

Sports betting legislation advancing in a number of states can take effect immediately upon passage.
