I think there's very much so a place for online books to grow. The taxes on this alone will likely not put lines at the standard 110 (imho), this will allow online books to offer less juiced lines. I think also people not necessarily wanting to pay local taxes will allow the online books to thrive (NOTE: Always pay your taxes)

Even if my state doesn't offer this, I'm a short hop from multiple borders in my state.

New Jersey Sports betting won the battle in Federal Courts

WASHINGTON -- New Jersey won a landmark ruling from the Supreme Court Monday that could lead many states to legalize betting on college and professional sports.
The justices ruled 7-2 that a 25-year-old federal law that has effectively prohibited sports betting outside Nevada cannot block states such as New Jersey that want to set up sports books. The ruling could set the stage for other states to expand legalized gambling as a source of government revenue.

Justice Samuel Alito, a New Jersey native, wrote the court's opinion in the case. Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.
It was a victory for the state's recently departed governor, Chris Christie, who had challenged the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, passed by Congress in 1992 to preserve the integrity of the nation's most popular sports.
It was a defeat for the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the four major professional sports leagues -- baseball, football, basketball and hockey -- that had successfully blocked New Jersey in lower courts.
The court's action could jump-start action in Congress to pass legislation calling for federal regulation of sports betting -- something the sports leagues would prefer over separate rules from state to state.
Congress passed the 1992 law to preserve what lawmakers at the time felt was the integrity of the games. But New Jersey and its allies argued that it ran afoul of the 10th Amendment, which reserves for the states all powers not delegated to the federal government.
Christie, who left office in January, signed the state's first law legalizing sports betting in 2012 after voters in 2011 overwhelmingly approved an amendment to the state Constitution to allow it.
That law was overturned by federal district and appeals courts, but the state tried again in 2014 with a law that stopped short of legalization but repealed the prohibition against running a sports books at tracks and casinos. That also was rejected at the trial and appellate levels, but the Supreme Court agreed last June to hear the case.

What has made the law anachronistic is the advent and rapid growth of Internet gambling. Rather than stopping sports betting, it helped push more of it underground, creating a $150 billion annual industry. That dwarfs the $5 billion bet in Nevada, the lone state with a legal sports book that preceded the federal law.

This is a big win especially for offshore and moreso the people who have both options. I think you'll see offshore drop a lot of their fees and juice, competition is a very good thing.

It's about time. I've been saying for *years* how this law is unconstitutional. Finally nice to have a court agree with me.

If I place a $500 bet on blackjack and win, they don't give me tax papers to fill out. I don't see why sports gambling would be any different.

They will need phone apps or it’s a recipe to fail and that’ll take a process

New Jersey only will have a few places to gamble and Maddie are not going to go if you add in tolls and gas unless like I said they get phone apps

No one knows right now what the odds will be. Payment is also a big issue. Lots of offshore books are scams or slow pay. They will go under for sure. Also Bet365, Pinnacle etc will get back in which will affect the current Books that accept US. If odds are the same US books will clean up. One thing is for sure. Between Eric Schneiderman AG of NY stopping DFS and the two ultra liberals voting against NJ pretty clear which party is anti gambling. Vote In November.

Well.....In theory you might have to pay taxes on it now with offshore if it's a bit more than 550/500.

Congress isn't going to do anything. Too many states want this, and even the states who don't want it don't care if others do.

Quite honestly, I am surprised we never saw a legislative solution to this problem and that we had to rely on SCOTUS.

I don't see why you think offshore will grow. The ESPN article on this predicts 32 states will have legalized betting within 5 years. Who is going to go through the nuisance of going offshore when you can just go 45 minutes down the highway? Heck, some of these states will no doubt allow mobile betting from within state borders.

    That's just it

The leagues feared they would lose & tried to sucker States into agreeing to compensate them beforehand.

No reason states should give them a dime now.
