These coaches do more with less every year as opposed to what Matta does with loaded teams. Would still put Matta ahead of Crean though as of now. Don't think Tubby Smith even belongs in the conversation.
But consider that Ohio isn't a hot bed for college basketball recruits yet Matta still loads up Ohio State every single year with 5 star recruits.

That is pretty impressive and I think the fact he is the best recruiter in the Big 10 arguably puts him behind Izzo as an OVERALL coach.

As for Tubby Smith, I think hes had a lot of bad luck. His best players always seem to get hurt or do something stupid and then he has to put together a team that usually barely makes it in the tournament or barely misses. But that was the one I would put Crean slightly above.

That still puts Crean in the middle of the Big 10 though, and this guy thought he was a top coach in the country.

How many banners does Illinois has in the fake assembly hall? Im pretty sure we have 5 which pretty much should just end the conversation. Are you really trying to brag that you lost a bit less than the last 20 years? Are you that stupid?! The only thing that matters in sports are championships

Sorry to get this thread off subject.

I still can't decide whether I trust Indiana tonight. Michigan State's defense looked like the best in the country against Nebraska... and I can't decide whether Nebraska is just that horrible or whether MSU is just not going to lose another game this year.

I just can't do it. I want to take Indiana, but something's telling me not to pull the trigger. May make a small play on +3, but probably only 1U.

Might take Wake and DePaul for 2U each.

In my lifetime, Indiana and Illinois both have 0 National Championships. So there you go.

Illinois also has more Big 10 championships than Indiana in my life time too so if Championshops matter....

MSU is consistent because they get after it on the glass, play tough D and are deep underneath. They don't have to rely on streaky outside shooting to get the job done.

IU have been giant killers this year at home and played MSU tough once already although it was one of the weirdest games Ive ever seen.

This game is probably just what it looks like. A coin flip. If Indiana shoots lights out then it'll be a game, if they struggle shooting Michigan State wins by 10.

    Good call.
Coming into this game Indiana had beat Ohio State, Kentucky, Notre Dame, and Michigan at home. That is quite impressive. Add a 9-3 ats record at home into the mix as well. With the only outright loss being Minnesota.

I'm starting to possibly buy into this idea that teams have certain personalities and this time of year is a great time to use those traits.

Michigan State was 7-4 straight up on the road and 7-4 ats on the road. So while being very solid on the road they probably should not have been favored in this game.

Now looking at Michigan State's next game we have Ohio State.
Michigan State is 12-3 ats at home and undefeated straight up at home.
Ohio St is 4-5 ats on the road this year and 5-4 straight up on the road this year.
Ohio St does have revenge on their mind, but you can't say they are the better overall team.
There is really no way I can bet on Ohio State in this spot unless they are more than an 8 point dog. If Michigan State is in the -3 to -4 range I think you have to take them.

Thanks Ink. Had a good night with the posted plays even though I passed on this one.

Not sure what to think about OSU-MSU. I still think the Spartans are overachieving and due for a little correction. They are talented no doubt, but they get by more on their tenacity and ability to out-work their opponents. They really, sorely lack a perimeter threat, though. Their D tends to disappear at inopportune times as well (at Northwestern and again tonight). I think Izzo has squeezed everything he could possibly get out of these guys, and my fear is they peaked a little too early.

Buford has been a Spartan killer his entire career and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Ohio State got MSU back and shared the crown with them in EL to tell you the truth. Buckeyes' talent level is well above MSU's, but Izzo can coach circles around Matta. MSU has no one like Deshaun Thomas, though.

I do not believe in this team. MSU just never got off the bus. This is a hollow win in my eyes, as MSU had nothing to gain. No matter the result, MSU has locked up their seeds in each tourny. Virtual lock for 1 or 2 seed. It was a revenge game for Indiana also.

Not believing in Indiana at home is pretty ridiculous. They play as well at home as anyone in the country
