"Octagon control" isn't part of the judging criteria.

but imo i still thought wonderboy edged it
he landed the better strikes when i watched it... and people say Till landed the best strike of the fight
thats 1 round this isnt pride rules, its each round being scored separately.. wonderboy won 3/5 rounds in my opinion

but hometown, and octagon control i could see how Till couldve got a split at best

In MMA the person moving backward often dictates the pace and where the fight takes place more than the person moving forward.

If you want an example think of Jon Jones moving backward to make Daniel Cormier run into that head kick.

Think of David Teymur's last fight where he moved backwards and his opponent repeatedly complained to the referee as Teymur 100% controlled where and when engagements took place and Drakkar Klose couldn't do jack !@#%.

Darren Till's size and reach (which I underestimated) helped save him from a similar fate.

Moving forward doesn't mean someone is controlling anything. MMA is still a learning game where people are learning new things and the idea that someone can move backwards while still controlling the octagon might be counter intuitive but I have faith people will catch on eventually.

    Heh.

I'll point out in threads everytime I see someone moving backward dictating the pace and context of the fight.

As time passes, people will catch on I'm certain.

This is like the time I said someone can gas out their legs holding the body triangle from the back in a standing position. It was during one of Dana Whites Contender Series fights. The one where the team alpha male wrestler who trained with Cody Garbrandt took his opponent's back. From the corner you could hear Danny Castillo tell him to apply body triangle standing and "squeeze the shit out of him".

Instantly I say: "that's a bad call from the alpha male corner" in the live thread. "he'll gas his legs out". What happened? Exactly as I called it.

    What an amazing coincidence.

Everyone make sure to show up when David Teymur fights. Maybe he can illustrate how someone can control the cage moving backward for every1.

not sure what youre ranting about man... youre literally giving 1-2 examples saying it happens almost all the time
anybody whos ever grappled knows putting a triangle submission or body triangle can make your legs tired whats that have to do with anything? thats like saying if you punch somebody hard it could hurt your hands its completely irrelevant

id say 90% + of the time the fighter pressing forward is controlling the fight, obviously there is counter fighters who like to move sideways/backwards but saying the person moving backwards often dictates the fight is just not true at all, the only time you really want to move backwards is if youre an elite counter striker or trying to get a takedown off somebodys forward momentum...

Wonderboy was tentative and I don't think he showed enough aggression over 5 rounds.
