true story. I hate people who 'go against the grain' and then call other conformers... but when the best argument for soccer is 'all these other fukkers like it' I have to wonder why the hell it matters what other people like? The argument 'millions of people can't be wrong' should have died after World War II... not just replace with billions, because I assure you, billions of people ARE wrong about soccer. It is a shitty sport and it is not entertaining at all. When a huge soccer match can end in a 0-0 or 1-1 tie, as if the game was never played at all, there is something seriously wrong with the sport.

depends on the country, the baseball is pretty much nonexistent except in mexico and the caribbean, the basketball has some nba caliber players especially in spain. mls has no one close to enough talent to play on manchester united, man city, bayern munich, barca, real etc.

MLS still has a salary cap that equals 1 month of Messi's pay which makes it difficult to sign players. Only hope is for financial fair play to limit spending and have those wealthy middle eastern guys come over and spend $$$ in MLS.

Well shit, Japan probably has the best baseball league besides the US and half of their super stars come over here and can't even be decent bench players..

Kosuke Fukudome was the 2nd best hitter in Japan and he was a nobody here.

yea i understand the workings of the cap, its doomed to fail since most foreigners have no real concept of how to manage a sport in this fashion. they have a slow growth policy which might make it mainstream by 2100 ad.

A mound ? A fence ? A plate ? Umpires? Huh what the hell are you saying , have you ever play baseball in the streets as a kid ? Even as a teenager?

Thats like saying that to play soccer , you need shinguards , a ref , linesman , a uniform
Is that a serious question? MLB teams go down there and pour tons of money into their communities solely for baseball so that they can find and scout MLB talent.

As for needing a ref for soccer, it is obviously far less important than having an umpire in baseball. You need someone to call balls and strikes. You don't need someone to waive a yellow flag or call a hand ball, those things are obvious.

Are you kidding me??? They play baseball in the dirt I have seen it with my own eyes , MLB only cares about them after the age of 16 or so

gregm & mati with the sharpest posts in this thread on previous page.

trinity - quality of mls isn't a factor for most, wouldn't matter if they abolished the cap & brought in clones of ronaldo + messi & every team in the country signed 10 of them. US guys have a certain mindset and appreciating 'soccer' as a sport doesn't even enter the frame - no matter how much you try to force it or speak with reason (from outside the us pov), their often biased opinion will never show any signs of faltering because it has been drummed into their heads all their life that soccer is the devil's sport. Majority of americans that replied in here show so much resent/hate towards said sport which just further reinforces the fact that it will never take off there. Don't even know why soccer guys are getting their knickers in a knot.. you honestly think you'll sway their opinion? No matter how you pitch it, you'll get the same response, will be like this until the end of time.

It's easier to stay safe with what you know, that's fine, it works the other way too, outside the us most american sports are considered a farce, they know that. Poster greggles added weight to the topic looking at it from a gambling perspective & some very valid points were raised.

Its all about markets and compare how Euro books can sponsor tennis tournaments like bet at home does, or sponsor soccer clubs like bwin and real madrid, boylesports and sunderland, mansion and tottenham, etc. Bwin even sponsors motogp races, you see sportsbook advertising everywhere at sporting events. It is a totally different world where sportsbooks and gambling is regulated.

In America , maybe we have accepted this situation because alot of people just dont know anything different. I bet alot of these young guys dont even remember when Americans had access to pinnacle, neteller, matchbook and most of the books around the world.

Gambling in Europe and Asia and most of the world is just regulated and controlled and is on a totally different level and most Americans without friends or agents without access to euro books are forced to deal with these US facing books and their usually miserable lines and options.
    good job greggles!

im not trying to sway anyones opinion showtime, americans are willing to tune into watch the world cup, they also watch the olympics and sports they dont care about every 4 years. the fact that mls is minor league stuff doesnt help its cause, thats all im saying. personally hope soccer or football is never popular over here, i have enough coverage i dont care about during the nfl offseason.
