If you were around then, you probably remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news. It was one of those rare, rare cultural moments, the same sort of thing felt with the assassination of John Lennon on Monday, December 8, 1980, and the death of Elvis on Tuesday, August 16, 1977.

This guy became the icon for the grunge movement started by Alice in chains and the Lemonheads

The legendary Dave grohl was Cobain's Robin to put his talent into perspective

Last song he recorded before his death, ironically my favorite one from the band.

I was walking to school just before thanksgiving break started.

Jon Amsdell had a mixed taped dubbed off the radio with it on there, he had me listen to it.

I didn't think much of it.

Jon later became the dealer with the best weed in the school

I wonder where he is now?

I remember just starting to talk to this one girl.... her entire room was Nirvana.... and Cobain gear. Blew my mind. When Cobain died.... didn't hear from that girl for about a week. I don't think she ever came out of her room. She said she lit candles.... and was in sorrow.

    Girl was a looney tune

3rd best frontman of the 1990s and who knows how high id rank him if he lived the whole decade, Eddie and Scott rank 1-2 on my list. Sad day indeed.

Fuk'in millionaire junkie blows his head off and you compare him to the assassination of John Lennon? Get the fuk outta here with that bullshit! John Lennon had more talent in his middle finger than this loser. All Cobain did was entice other brain dead kids to off themselves. Yeah, some legacy. Dave Grohl, who was the real talent in Nirvana, said it best, "sat around and watch the last one die"

And look at Dave today, Foo Fighters one of the best fuk'in rock bands out there! He didn't miss a beat over Cobain's puss way out. Celebrate life, not the junkie death of some loser who wrote garbage, out of tune grunge crap.

Grunge!!! New sound back in the day.. I liked it...

Obviously the cold rainy weather in Seattle got to him.. Seattle did or still does have the highest suicide rate in the Country for a reason.. Gray skies year round and tons of rain does wear on the mind..

Drug abuse doesn't help matters either.. Kurt checked out.. Quit..

I used to love the Lemonheads back in the late 80's before they signed to a major label. But they were NEVER grunge. What Lemonheads album do you consider grunge?

Alice in Chains however definitely was, probably my favorite grunge band ever.

Alice in chains was the sound, Lemonheads was the look. Paved the road for Nirvana to swallow the world

Fair enough. The Lemonheads cover of Luka from 1989 could probably pass for grunge. Don't forget about Kurt's biggest influence and favorite band... The Pixies. They weren't grunge either but they had the same Slow Fast Slow style as Nirvana.

I was actually under the impression that GG Allin was Kurt's biggest influence. He went to visit him in prison when he was doing garage bands as a teen

I don't fullly understand why these musicians commit suicide? Money and fame isn't much when you are hooked on hard drugs and heroin.. That becomes your world.

I guess if you are hooked on heroin and isolating and trying hard to avoid the fan spot light life can get ugly. The demand to play events and produce albums could become a grind and just to much to handle when your brain is mush.

Most musicians are misfits fits anyways in life and have issues long before they become famous. Best lyrics and song inspirations do come off bad memories and drug highs though.. This I do know.. Just look at the 70's..

That's why you never put a needle in your arm to get high... That's a BIG NO NO in life IMO.. You cross that line premature death is your future most likely.. OD's, suicide, etc..

GG Allin was a maniac. I never liked any of his stuff. In my youth one of my punk friends showed me a documentary about him and it was absolutely insane. If you were in the front at one of his shows there's a good chance GG would throw shit(a shit he would take on stage) or piss on you and he might even punch you in the face with microphone in hand. I used to like a lot of punk music but the stuff he did was disgusting. Kurt must have respected his rebellious attitude. That shit was way too hardcore for me.
