Going to pass on that business opportunity.

Flight to LA for a week this morning, playing poker locally and a couple tournaments as well as exploring the city.

Made $4000 last week in sports, withdrew, made $3000 payment on co-signed loans. This thread helped me realize I should not take for granted my parents co-signing. While I will not immediately pay it off, I realize I should put a good amount of future profits from any ventures towards paying it off. My current payoff scenario is also the most aggressive with less than 5 year payoff period while many people are doing interest only which is awful.

Still looking for a job and applying but trying to remain positive, not depressed and enjoy myself. Will not travel internationally but will continue traveling to play poker and explore the country while I search for a new job. No, I would never play poker for a living, it itself is a depressing venture taking money from people but for now, it’s what I have.

Thanks everyone for the insight. While I do consider myself bright, I feel stuck. I do not have the experience necessary to impress an organization in finance and wasted my college years for valuable internships. I wish I could redo the start to my career because I’ll likely never get to where I want to be now. There will always be a better candidate.

You can't press rewind and you can't press fast forward. All you got is now.

Watch out for a guy named sharp angles in the LA poker rooms. Guy will take your money.

I don’t know man maybe you need to work on your resume if you’re not getting callbacks. Or go back to school and get an MBA. I graduated in 2008 after the market collapse and had no problem finding a financial analyst job. I’m a consultant now working in all different organizations and every single damn company wants a cheap fresh out of college analyst. They are hard to find these days. Your generation is lazy as fck and have a shitty work ethic/no respect for older people. Check your attitude and get professional help on your resume. Doesn’t make sense you wouldn’t get any callbacks. Do you have a weird name or are you shotgunning a beer in your linked in photo ? There’s something you’re doing wrong.

Also stop with the poker and gambling shit until you have a steady job for a few years . It’s not the key to getting out of debt. Ask your parents if they want to be paid back over time or have a chance of being paid back sooner with the chance their son becomes An addict. You’re not going to care about your job search or job if you are used to highs and lows from gambling. Going to work everyday and Getting a couple grand in your bank account every couple weeks isn’t that exciting, but is important in long run and will set you up for a good life. Gambling will affect your performance at work or you may just quit all together or never put the right amount of effort in to finding the right job. Then all of a sudden you’re 30 and broke and have no skills or references. No chicks wants anything to do with a broke 30 year old without a job. I’ve seen it happen way too many times.

While in LA, stop by the recently built Hawaiian Gardens casino. Good chance you will run into FunnyB while there and you may end up with a back rub from an SBR legend.

    Couple of things:

You keep saying financial analyst, but that means many things. I take it from your posts that you mean doing FP&A or something for a non finance company. If so, why Texas and not new york.

Also, I would echo other posters who said to use a local address and number when you apply places. If they dont make you use a street address, just pick a town close to there to use, use the same one on your resume.Unfortunately, the applicant tracking systems large companies use will filter you out as a non local candidate.

Do you live close to Washington? If so, why not look at the government. The SEC is always hiring examiners and such, all agencies have budgets to look at. Not a bad gig, they tend to be pretty laid back.

Use linkedin to reach to alumni of your school at companies you want to work at. See if they could recommend you. That helps to get an interview.

Dont pay a resume writer. It is a waste of money, and at 24, you dont have the experience necessary to need it even if it wasnt a waste of money.

Just keep applying for things. That is all you can do. Make sure you have the best resume and cover letter you can.

Lot of mixed emotions to the replies but many solid points. I will start using local addresses for applications. I thought it would not be appreciated though to lie.

Pharaoh you bring up an interesting point. While I initially disagreed with you, I slowly agreed with you. As part of my insurance claim, I must show filings for at least 5 full applications. I complete an average of 10 a week. You are right though, I appreciate gambling more than a W2 because 2 years ago, I did it for a living for a couple months and made a lot in mere months through strictly poker. I am good at it. The problem is, gambling isolated you. Ruins good habits because u just focus on the money. Makes you depressed.

Like I said before I WILL not make gambling or poker playing a career. However, I very much want my debts paid off. Whereas people envision nice cars, boats, etc I envision going home to parents and handing them a check to pay off all the debt. I use bankroll management in poker, I do not play big games and my win rate is good. While unemployed I will play. I will use majority of any profits to pay down my debt.

What also saddens me is I will have to move one day JUST to acquire real estate. Here in DC real estate is minimum $500k for an ugly 3 br 2bath. $3000-$4000/month rent minimum. On 60-70k salary that’s nothing. That’s part of the reason I want to move. Texas no income tax and lower cost of living. Slightly lower salary but that’s okay. I also want to build my wealth so I can invest and accrue residual income.

While poker and gambling have negative life impacts, in short term, if good at understanding the math, reads and play, it can be beneficial STRICTLY on a monetary view.

Would I rather be working FT right now? Yes. Much more than gamble. Would I rather be in a casino playing poker or at home unemployed and depressed? Casino.

If someone would be able to review my resume I would appreciate it.

I’ll be at the commerce today and a couple times later this week playing 1/2 PLO 100-400. Plan is to play at the Bike Weds ($400 tournament) and Friday ($570 survivor).

If anyone is in the area I’d enjoy grabbing lunch or dinner while I’m here.

Get an engineering degree. We can't find enough people to hire. We hire graduates as soon as they finish college with no experience.
A lot of people go to college to get a degree without knowing what the market demand is for specific jobs.

Forget travelling to Europe now. Go there in 20 years when you can afford it.
