Rodgers can opt out of the 2021 season and keep his money

    According to Mike Florio:

The letter agreement between the NFL and NFL Players Association from Tuesday of this week does indeed grant broad powers to all players to opt out of the 2021 season, regardless of whether they opted out in 2020 or whether they have been diagnosed with a higher-risk condition since October 1, 2020. Although such players would be entitled to no stipend for 2021, any player who executed his most recent contract before October 1, 2020 can indeed opt out voluntarily, no questions asked as to motivation or qualification or possible ulterior motive.

This includes, most notably, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. By next Friday, July 2, he can pull the plug on the 2021 season. It would be a permanent and irrevocable decision, but he can do it.

The benefit to doing so comes from the fact that he would not forfeit $11.5 million in unearned signing bonus money for 2021 if he opts out. Also, he presumably would still receive the payments on the $6.8 million roster bonus that he earned in March, and that is due to be paid out in weekly installments during the season.

That’s $18.3 million that he’ll keep by opting out. If he doesn’t opt out but holds out, he loses that $18.3 million — and would be fined roughly $2 million on top of it for skipping training camp.

Rodgers is the equivalent of an emotional 16 year old girl...he'll be at training camp, just has to act like a little b*tch first and garner some attention, relax everyone

So, July 2nd it the deadline. If he doesn't opt out he's coming back anyway (unless he's traded before that...probably won't be happening). And if he does not opt-out then the Packers won't trade him anyway.

That leaves them until July 2nd to trade him, and they won't do it. They will sit around thinking he will return. Either way, the drama ends by July 2nd at the latest.

My God. What a deal. That's crazy.

Seeing the NFL and how they screwed over so many players through the year with shady contracts, it's about time they got their comeuppance.

He’d still lose over 17 million and he’s at the end of his career if he opted out.

I can’t see him opting out. He’s only got a few years left. If he opts out then he doesn’t really care about winning another championship

They say he wants to be in movies, California here I come. Probably not a lot of fun to be closeted in Milwaukee. I would consider taking him, maybe above all other QBs (top 3?) for one season.

Does anyone's book list Packers at 9 for season wins? If so, what juice?

Adams will want out after this season if AR is not there. They will have to tag him to keep him from leaving.

He can't just leave right now. They have to trade him. Unless he wants to sit for the whole season. They're playing poker.

You pay elite talent. If GB can't do it the rest of the league will give him top 5 WR money.

These guys have SOOOOOO much money....Just be gone gone if you're not happy. The locker room feels displeasure.. Don't resign him.. The biggest reason in basketball (another sport I know) that I believe the Suns win it all is simple.... talent about equal. They WANT it more!
The Nationals won the World Series once Bryce Harper was GONE!

Bryce Harper is not Aaron Rodgers.

Packers will be in the lottery without him.

Packers are the worst organization I've ever seen in my life. You draft a qb in the first round, along with some other ludacris draft picks, when you have a top 3-4 quarterback in nfl history at the peak of his powers.

You surround him with hardly any talent. You refuse to spend money. You refuse to talk to rodgers about bringing in players.

Wanna know why Tampa won? Brady said, let me go out and get some guys. Brady brought Gronk. Brady brought AB. Brady brought Fournette. The front office didn't do that. Brady did. It's documented. And what happened?

All 3 of those "washed up" players that the league didn't want, scored TDs in the superbowl.

Pretty much sums up what is going on. He's going to make the Pack sweat a bit to make up for the "aggravation" of them taking Jordan Love without consulting him. He'll eventually show up - mid-late August - and be under center vs the Saints on September 12th. It's all just a show at this point...
