    This. Lifting boxes would have residual pain afterwards at any age, but if you are close to 50 or older you are just sore. Nothing more than pain tolerance

    There are those inversion boards as shown on TV, but they're expensive.

    That lower back machine at the gym is pretty good, but (IMO) don't use it until pain subsides.

    Spasms are the worst.

    Lay on the bed flat.

    Point your toes to the ceiling and 1 at a time lift your legs as high as you can

    Does it feel like your back wont let you go higher on 1 side?

    If not, use the heating pad and quit being a fukkin pussy
