You know your stuff, props. Of the 6 rumored short listers, I've got 5 in profit (Harris and Rice in very comfortable profit), but Liz remains in the red and I can't decide whether to hedge her.
Working against her (and therefore for me) is she's white, she's 70 and she's from a state with a Republican governor in a year when the Senate is absolutely in play.
Given how tired democrats are of McConnell and being in the Senate minority, I thought the Republican governor thing would be enough to prevent her selection.
So imagine my horror when I found out that barely matters since the Massachusetts state legislature is basically a one party body (36 dems to 4 repubs in the state Senate and 127 to 32 in the House) who can pass a veto proof bill forcing the governor to appoint someone from the same party as a departing Senator.
Apparently 6 states already have that law, but I'm confused on how something like that can be enforced. I mean, can't a current Massachusetts Republican (AKA, a unicorn) just "switch parties" right now to get appointed by the governor as a "democrat" under the future mandate?
Or, more likely, am I just trying to justify not doing what I should do and hedge Warren out?
