College Football Playoffs HAVE to change
There has to be more than 4 teams in the playoffs. The LSU game was a joke. A semi final game over by half time is not acceptable. Look at all the teams that played against LSU who kept it closer. I actually bet LSU -12.5 and switched off at half time and I know many others who got bored. How can a group of people decide if a 13-0 team is better than another 13-0 team? Is there any other country in the world who operates a major sporting event this way? I doubt it.

The solution to having less blowouts isn't to allow more teams into the playoffs. The fact that Oklahoma got blown out is a testament to the sharp drop off in caliber of teams after the top 3. Would you feel any better about Notre Dame getting waxed by LSU?
If there are more teams there would be more blowouts. LSU, Ohio St and Clemson would have blown out Oregon, Baylor and Wisconsin. The only close game would have been Oklahoma - Georgia and Georgia would have won. Then you are back again to the best 4 teams with the same results as now.

I have been in favor of an 8 team playoff (5 Big 5 conference winners, highest ranked team in smaller conferences, 2 wild cards) for a while now. After seeing the stats of the semifinal games lately, I'm not sure that's a good idea anymore. I liked the idea mainly because of the spirit of the NCAA Basketball tournament that upset magic can happen at anytime. I'm starting to be swayed that football is an entirely different beast, and you're only going to have 1-3 realistic teams to win the championship every year. Might be a good idea to leave "well enough" alone.

So much pressure to include the Big12 and Pac12, even when we all know their teams were shit.
PSU, WIS, MICH, ALA, GA, AUB, FL were all better than OK.
8 BEST TEAMS, yes please. Drop the conference affiliate designates- it doesn't do any justice in FB. (Basketball yeah, it makes sense).

YES - 8 teams absolutely! And use some of these garbage bowls for the extra round of playoffs. Then those bowls will actually mean something, unlike now with just family & friends in the stands. Can't believe those money-hungry jackasses at the NCAA are not on board with the higher ratings and increased revenue this scenario would bring!

So the 1-4 is pretty much always a blowout and your solution is to add more teams when they can’t even find a suitable 4th? Makes total sense.

OP, wouldn't LSU have killed oregon, utah, wisconsin, minnesota, iowa, baylor?....... why would more teams really matter for competitive reasons?........ i would say the only question is another SEC team. haven't checked LSU game log for this year.
i like more teams (6 or 8 teams?) but just more for lack of argument and recognition of more teams......
I Kinda feel like it be better to let every power 5 conf champ in. Also one group of 5., then I suppose 2 wild cards but for most part im fine with 4. Most the time we lucky if there 3, deserving teams. All making it to 8 would do is make it less likely the best team ends up being champ, that shouldn’t be the goal!!
i'm thinking 6 teams. minimum 4 champs. room for 1 non-big5 champ, and possibility for 1 non-big5 (amongst the 6)
I’m pretty confident if they expand again it will absolutely be to include every power 5 champ and most likely 8 teams., im perfectly fine with way it is tho.
The Big 12 should be left out for a few years. Oklahoma has shit the bed on too many playoff/championship games the last 20 years. Doesn't make any difference if they are undefeated or not. They are playing checkers whereas their opponents are playing Big Blue Level Chess
