Choose to hate him if you will but take a close look at Martin’s managerial career. He took over some mighty shitty bottom feeder teams and made them champs or contenders, remarkable at what he did with nothing.
Agree, had a cup of coffee w a 68 win twins team, got them to 85 or so a year later

Daulton, Council, Bonilla, Floyd, Alou, White, sheffield....Brown, Leiter, Fernandez.

7 of 8 fielders and top 3 starters free agent signings or traded for prior to 97 season.

That team literally wrecked baseball for a generation. Killed loyalty and the idea of a farm system and of course killed baseball in miami forever as they will only win when they buy another championship.

Game still struggling to overcome this phenomenon of players moving to stacked teams, much like nba.

I remember the days of the Blake Street Bombers. Larry Walker, Andres Galarraga, Dante Bichette, and Vinny Castilla. Nothing has ever come close to that since.

Always thought Bichette had the greatest "compact" swing of any RHB ever....look at his videos....zero waste in that approach to hitting

Since Miami’s new ownership is trying to win doing literally the opposite of what you’re saying, how do you back your statement up?

I will go out on a limb and say Miami wins 85+ games in 2021 with a payroll below $110 million.

Did the Cubs and Red Sox (with their payrolls north of $185 million) “buy” their recent World Series rings like the 1997 Marlins?

I’ve seen the juiced balls and big ballpark mentioned but just as important is what the altitude does to pitching. The pitches don’t have the movement they do at sea level so are easier to hit. So you’ve got hanging pitches with a juiced ball at high altitude.

No they didn't. Both the Sox and the Cubbies had multiple home grown All Stars as the root of their current teams. Yes, both added to via trades (thou really the Cubs didn't improve much outside of Chapman, and Price has been so so for Boston). The Marlins literally bought or traded for 7 starters in the field and 3 starters on the mound before or during the 97 season.

I like what Mia is doing, and god if Fernandez was alive w Gio and Yelich they'd be something else but that team ain't winning 85 games in the east w Phi, Wash, Atl stacked for 3 years and Mets checkbook.

MinnyFats, you’re a good dude so let’s agree to disagree. You’re right in that the 97’ Marlins bought the WS and I’m right in that most WS rings are bought by big payrolls (excluding Astros). A gigantic payroll is a gigantic payroll. If it quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. Cubs, Red Sox and countless other teams have had enormous payroll that subsequently resulted in WS rings.

RIP Jose Fernandez. Love Gio but he’s had 38 plate attempts all year and a ridiculous contract Loria never had any intention of paying the back end of so no loss there.

Isan Diaz, Sixto Sanchez, Eduardo Cabrera and JJ Bleday. Remember those names. See you at the 2021 playoffs in Miami.

    Coors Field is tremendous.

No better ballpark in the history of ballparks.

Mussina and Sandberg are two of my all time favorite players.
Flew to Chicago to see Sandberg and Wrigley in person.
I thought it was everything a ballpark should be.

Almost shocked the Rockies didn't score a Grand Slam bottom of the 10th. This is like All Star game in NBA, but all season long.

The juiced ball is most of the problem... but agreed, run totals are stupid at Coors
