    Chris Sale 0-4, 8.50ERA BOS -220 vs Detroit 4/22/2019

    This seems like an awfully bad bet at this price but I know there are some out there that will still bet the red stockings and lay the big juice.

    It actually came down a bit, I have them at -230. I will be at the game and I have disposable income so more just having fun than anything else.

    Sale looks like he turned the corner in his last game even though it ended bad. His fastball velocity finally returned which had been his problem in the 1st 3 games. He had lost 8mph on the fastball and suddenly became ordinary. Last game out it looked much closer to being back and he struck out 6 Yankees in the loss.

    I actually have Boston 75% (-300), although I am not betting the game because I never lay more than -150. Now may actually be the best time to bet ON Sale for those that do not mind laying juice, he only has one direction to go and his velocity is fine, so does not appear to be anything physical.

    Is there humidity? True if so Archie.. Tropical weather is different story.. I don't live in Boston last I checked Boston isn't the tropical islands... Isn't in the 50's in Boston now?

    But ball won’t carry as far in cold weather compared to warmer weather.

    Overall conditions for this game favor the pitchers, IMO.

    BUT 97 pitches, so to me not a great start.
    Bullpen lays a big fat turd.

    i didn't know that but it looks right vis-a-vis google.

    but there is no way the ball goes further in a rain storm or under water, which to me is ultimate humidity. so i don't understand it completely

    Humidity is a measure of the percentage of water vapor in the air. An increase in humidity has a surprising effect on air density: As humidity increases, air density decreases. In damp air, the large, heavy oxygen and nitrogen molecules are replaced by lighter water molecules, resulting in less density -- in essence, lighter air. Physicist Paul Doherty explains it this way: "We think of humidity as something that's added to the air on a hot, muggy day. So you might think that a ball would go farther on a dry day than on a humid day. But for every water molecule that we add to the air, we displace a heavier nitrogen or oxygen molecule. Since the addition of humidity actually makes the air less dense, a ball will go farther on a humid day than it will on a dry day." The changes in air density related to humidity are not large: Compared to dry air at the same temperature and pressure, there's only about a 1 percent reduction in density for a humidity of 80 percent.
    The chart below shows a sample of balls hit at different speeds and angles under different conditions of temperature, humidity, and altitude. Notice that even a 5 percent difference in drag can make the difference between a fly ball and a home run.

    Yeah, I just thought it was nuts to lay that kind of vig on a pitcher and team that has struggled a lot early in the season.

    FWIW I bet Detroit yesterday but wager was cancelled and I forgot to re bet today. So I got a big fat ZERO for my effort.
