you have to pick what fits to your personality, whatever you are comfortable with.
Nowadays with the volatility it makes more sense to stick to shorter time frame...
Moving averages are most commonly used for trend following. Again it's a preference which ones?
Those are all very personal stuff....You have to find what speaks to you:

exactly, if you're long like i am, get in immediately and at least start a small position in all stocks you like. if it goes down, add to the position and lower your cost. if the stock runs away, well that's a nice problem to have, then you go open another position in a stock you like, rinse and repeat and check back in 5 years.

    that's homie's recipe

Create a plan.....Than have the discipline to follow it!

If we are talking about trading........???

    Started CRNC

    added to CRWD and GAN

Still more cash on sidelines, hoping for another week or two of discount shopping before next stimulus bill is signed.

From trough to peak, yeah, but not from current level. After a 20% correction from here, yeah. IMO.

2er get in the water. Open small positions in every stock you like. Put in 31% of what your max is for each position. If it goes down 15% buy equal number of shares. Do it twice more if it drops 15% twice more. Add up all the shares of these 4 buys and u get 100% of what u allocated

Trust me. U know math. Trust me

The wheel would be great here IMO if you’ve got a longer time horizon...with the volatility in this market writing options could generate some good premium.

Tech stocks worry me right now. That’s where a lot of my $$$ is in. I have $$& in AAPL, TTD, FSLY, LLNW, SQ, and SE. Been a rough month and it’s supposedly going to get worse the next month.

Heavy hitting week of earnings coming up especially on Thursday after the close. Amazon, Apple, Alphabet. That could be 3 of the 4 horsemen right there if things don't go well.

As the FANG stock fade, I'm looking to get into beat up sectors that no one wants like the Financials, Energy, Oil, and even airlines. Also looking at the small caps.

Started a new position in this one and it has been pretty good in the early part of the week, but then came back a little with the rest of the market. I expect this one to continue up as the market rallies early next week on what I call the Ibeam of bullshit pattern. That is where the FED comes in and puts up all the money they need to so that things don't collapse. Moved the stop up to $383.19 so that I don't lose any money on this trade.

I know who the hell wants to buy banking stocks when no one is paying their mortgages and the interest rates are at or near 0. Well I guess I will. I think that if the market is going to pop out of the downward spiral next week, the financials will need to be in the lead and to that end the FED will be pumping money into them one way or another. Sure they're dead, but they WILL rise like a good zombie and act like they are alive next week. I actually bought some more right before the close on Friday then placed a stop loss at $23.71, so it isn't like I'm giving them a long leash to pull back on me.

This stock reported this week and killed it as I thought they should. I typically try to remember to take some profit before a stock reports so I don't end up like the people who were holding Netflix. I'll be looking for a pullback in gold in the short term but then I'll be adding to the golds for the foreseeable future. Move the stop loss up to insure profits even if there is a pullback.

I was buying this a little at a time all week. This one is going straight up so I'm probably gonna wait for a little pullback before buying some more. Moved the stops up pretty tight to $175.81 and $170.85

    KL: Kirkland Lake Gold

This gold stock had a rocky week actually so I didn't buy any more of it, they report next week so I probably wait to buy and will probably take some profits before they report. I did sell some this week also. The stop loss is moved up to $46.91.

I can't believe that this stock really hasn't done much for the last month. I think they report soon so maybe that will shake things up a little bit. The stop is still at $97.99

Here is the tale of the tape for the last month, and as you can see from the overall numbers at the top of the chart, if I had to liquidate all the assets, I would come out about even for the month. Which is surprising considering that until last week, I was being taking out to the wood shed for some serious dog styling.

This is a strategy I've thought about doing but not sure how successful it's been. If you trade based on earnings reports regularly, getting heads up of positive earnings coming out, do you get a pretty good profit out of it? Pretty sure Earnings Whispers that Iona posts gives you sneak peeks of positive earnings reports coming out.

Actually, I like to get out of my positions mostly by around 75% before the stock reports. Over the years, I seem to remember getting burned more than getting a pop out of the stocks. Then again, it could be just focusing on the negative. This week AUY reported and right before hand the stock traded down to the $5.70 area. Then they killed it $0.07 actual against $0.025 estimated so the stock shot up 60 cents the next day. If I had the stones I could have pulled another $135 out of it. I seem to remember things that happen to netflix where the stock falls about $50 and then continues down afterwards. Sure Netflix was easy I guess, they missed $1.84 estimate against $1.59 actual. I've seen stocks miss the target but come up with a story and the stock goes up on tales from the CEO. Hell just look at the Tesla story. They barely make any money and still they get a boost to begin with until people figure out that they are probably cooking the books.

I think it is just best to remove 75% of the position and put it back on afterwards if things are O.K. and just miss all the casino drama when they report.

    Crypto discussion:

I know it’s been discussed before and maybe this is nothing new. My bet on cryptos is in xrp and bitcoin. I am a little more overweight in xrp because a) more affordable b) it’s being incorporated by banks and it’s payID system

    generally curious for others thoughts

unless you are just a high conviction believer MJ is going to replace beer or caffeine....just seems it’s hard to stay in something so volatile through the bad times.

culturally I am not so sure this country will be in a place To have a honest real discussion about national legalization.

past the Mason Dixon line there’s no legality and it’s a perceived by politicians as a voting leverage with Christian conservatives

I'm not one for the crypto currencies except for Bitcoin. Bitcoin has a volatility that is too much for me typically, but it is the most recognizable and I think in time it will shine out all the others due to its name recognition. I tend to buy and sell using the stochastic indicator on a monthly chart and still the change in price action is a little unnerving for me when trading a "currency". Unfortunately however I believe that the "dollar" is on its way to digital status as well. The dollar is mostly digital now anyway and when it goes full digital, then the bitcoin will have an advantage over the dollar because of how it is accounted for so I try to buy the dips and collect along with gold, and now a little silver. With the obvious inflationary tactics that will be employed for the dollar, I think it is a good idea to diversify the currency assets in a digital field along with actual stuff I can hold, and to that end I choose the bitcoin only because I haven't looked at the others and the volatility just makes me nervous as a whole for this currency sector.

Yeah, I'm with you here. I see the market place in legalized areas is booming and the products such as the CBD and edibles are a great innovation in the world of pot. I also like the vap pen and the elimination of the "smell" from such devices. All cutting edge stuff that makes the products more attractive than regular tobacco. Oh did I mention that the high doesn't leave you all hung over the next morning? That is a bonus as well. Although I have noticed that if I partake too much in a given period my ambition does get reduce somewhat and that is a negative.

Having said all the great things this sector of the market has brought to the table, the persistent illegality in most states and the federal accounting hurdles will keep this business subdued until the market is allowed to be a full participant in the capitalist system nation wide.

Sbux reports on tue. Every one of them I see within 10 miles of my home which have drive-thru's are literally always 8+ cars deep no matter what time.

Let's see what Q2 looked like for them

3 tricky things for the market right now:

    1) China
    2) Stimulus and Weak Dollar want to drive market higher, but...
    3) The virus just ain't going away yet. Lockdowns and Business-Killing measures still in place. Market keeps pricing in the removal of social strictures being 1-2-3 months away, but it's not happening and might even go the other way. This makes "traps" in stocks whose business relies on bodies. Most restaurants, casinos, entertainment, travel, lodging, REITs, retail shopping. What would another stage of lockdowns or the refusal to lift strictures do to these companies? Drive them lower.

If the economy isn't moving forward with more normality, expect gold and silver to rally even harder because there will be
another - and maybe another after another -- stimulus. Also expect internet retail, ups, fedex, anything home delivery to be strong. Still, it's just not time yet to make that play, either, so it's still possible to play the "bodies" value stocks - and hope for a good August into September, just watch the VIRUS at all times.

nkla at around 30 seems good... like when bynd went back down to 60 after the post-ipo run up... same kind of action, open up then triple then back down to the ipo/spac price

can't think of much else that looks good at current levels, the retail/hotel/casino stuff that i follow is probably fairly priced at this point

Mikey, I agree, and yes it is nuts that people are waiting in these lines, many times i have counted when there are more than 6-8 cars and it is in the teens like 14 to 15 cars deep, this happens with regularity.

Caffeine is a tough addiction to wean off of. Starbucks is also branded and look well-managed. I am long on SBUX and looking forward to the numbers and guidance on Tuesday. either way I am a long term holder so minumum 5Y and I think it can get to the $140's so i will be patient.

    Join me, Mate.

Rocker, It is a complete and utter wastage of time. arguing politics, religion, sports - not worth it.

what we have here in the Stock thread is like-minded individuals all trying to help each other win.

    cheers, Mate
