my wife and I scratched "fuk outdoors during a hurricane" off of our respective bucket lists during hurricane Ike......

while I didn't think to do it during the 135-150 mph gusts of Ike, I guess I can go backdoor if this one hits us, and scratch that off our lists, as well......

ps.... that "cone of danger" on the map is beginning to take shape like the Viag-stick I'll be sportin' saturday morning when that mazzah fakkah hits land.........

The most dangerous part of a hurricane is the NE winds. We in Houston are about to get slammed. If you are on the coastline, I'd recommend getting inland now. There should be 20 inches of rain in many spots. I had 18 inches fall in 20 minutes back in March and it was crazy. I just had sand bags delivered to the house. I made a grocery run last night. Once I get the generator looked at, I should be set. Stay safe by staying indoors. most deaths are by people on the roads or outside killed by fallen trees.

I went through a Cat 1 last year living about 10-15 miles from the coast. Knocked the power out for 5 days. I don't want any part of a cat 4. I'd probably just leave for the mountains till it passed

Start freezing water. You can salvage some things if you have ice. Get extra gas and cash.

This thing looks like it will park it down for several days. Not good. Stay safe Mac

Does Texas ever get hit with a hurricane?

    This seems unusual.

47 years. The state is prepared though. They have evacuation routes everywhere. It floods there all the time.

Thanks Dane... We were out of electricity for 2 weeks during Rita, so I'm well versed. The only thing I really have to worry about is if I lose power but I have a large generator that will run my freezer, refrig, portable AC unit, TV, tablets and microwave. It's not large enough to power the entire house, so we would basically hunker down and live in the Den, LR and kitchen. I have propane gas grills and enough food/can goods to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Most of these weather events seem to be overhyped but I have a feeling, this is going to be a bad one. I think this year or next may be horrible years for weather as well. Hopefully, this one passes with nothing more than a whimper.

i thought you ran FEMA and were in charge of recruiting workers to aid in disasters. i know you previously stated that. it would seem you would be too busy to post on here due to preparations for the impending storm. did you retire from that gig.

Stay safe fellas. I'm stubborn when it comes to hurricanes, but this one looks bad. Just gonna hover there, and regenerate for days. Fck the winds, the water is gonna be a bitch. Donker gonna have to double down to knock the storm surge out.

Never ever ran FEMA, not even close. Yes, I worked with FEMA in many disaster recoveries mainly in supplying personnel and sometimes running the operational locations. I hired several key people in FEMA after Katrina and when they became part of Homeland Security that are still there today. I set up some of their onboarding and training as well. FEMA and the Red Cross are not very good with their workers (especially the Red Cross) and temp workers is too up and down. I use to be able to send people on many assignments and keep them busy. Most of that work has dried up, so I don't do much work with them. It doesn't make sense to send good people to an event like this where they may only work a week or 2. If they can't guarantee at least a few months, it's not worth the time. Today FEMA has to rely on local workers. I'm really not a temp agency unless it's high paying.

Why would I be too busy if I was working? Do you know what FEMA does? I worked in very safe places AFTER the event, not in some pontoon boat or in a plane flying through the eye of a storm. There's a lot of downtime and most people spend that online? I can't recall ever missing a game or not making a bet.
