I wonder if PR people or lawyers are behind him racing. Wanting him to act like he did nothing wrong.
I'm not convinced he did do anything wrong yet personally.
The video shows Stewart turning right as he gunned it, sliding the rear tire away from Ward. But he was already hit by then... before the engine gunned I think. (although impossible to tell without knowing the camera distance and how delayed the sound was)
He could have done that to avoid hitting Ward.

Of course he wasn't trying to hit the guy. I have no doubt about that.
You see how dark it is on that track. A lot of people that were there have commented how dimly lit the track was. Factor in the fact that Ward was in a black fire suit, and that could create issues.
I'm sure Tony would rather not run today, but if doesn't, it would be serious trouble for his chances for the chase. Not saying this is more important than a guys life, but it was a tragic accident. Tony not running today isn't going to change that.

I think he was just trying to scare the guy brush by him and then hit him , he needs to get some kind of punishment
Either way a wrongful death suit against will be filed by the family so even if he dont do time there will be some type of case against him

Spoken like a true conspiracy theorist20 year-old driver jumps out of his car on a racetrack with cars flying by and runs into traffic (whats wrong with that picture) to confront someone who obviously doesn't realize the kid is about to jump in front of him (they don't have spotters in their ears to tell them some irritated kid is about to jump in front of them) he makes an abrupt reaction and nails the kid...nothing suspicious about it. Just a stupid accident that shouldn't of happened...the kid should of thrown his helmet at him or punched him out after the race...not run into oncoming traffic

I agree, but if had raced today it would have put the explanation point on he does not give a crap about the guy he killed, I think his PR people got to him. You know at worst a wrongful death case by the family will be filed against Stewart
I still don't think he meant to seriously injure the kid....possibly got surprised he was THAT close to him less than 30 secs after the caution and the gunning of the engine could go both ways - tried to bump him or scare him....or if he sees him on the car unexpectedly gunned it to tray and turn away....still withholding judgement.
That being said, should be noted Stewart grew up a dirt track specialist and even owns, or did last time I watched the sport more, a dirt track where he and other Cup drivers do these sprint races all the time so I can't buy the 'he wasn't used to small dirt track/ sprint car steering theory.

"What happened was the back end kicked out and clipped the guy and the guy flew across the track."
Tyler Graves, a sprint-car racer and friend of Ward's, told Sporting News in a phone interview that he was sitting in the Turn 1 grandstands and saw everything that happened.
"Tony pinched him into the frontstretch wall, a racing thing," Graves said. "The right rear tire went down, he spun on the exit of (Turn) 2. They threw the caution and everything was toned down. Kevin got out of his car. … He was throwing his arms up all over the place at Tony for most of the corner.
"I know Tony could see him. I know how you can see out of these cars. When Tony got close to him, he hit the throttle. When you hit a throttle on a sprint car, the car sets sideways. It set sideways, the right rear tire hit Kevin, Kevin was sucked underneath and was stuck under it for a second or two and then it threw him about 50 yards."

What happens if some guy gets out on the interstate out of road rage and some driver clips him and kills him? There's a reason it's illegal to walk down an interstate

If the driver sees the guy in the road and choose to "scare" him with his car? Then the driver is going to jail.
I agree he's gonna have some accountability. Temper got the best of him...underestimated how it would suck him under the wheels and kill him...irresponsible though just like a football player targeting someone out of retaliation and ends up seriously injuring him rather than just getting a good shot. I'm just saying he wasn't circling the track and then barreled into him head on and started backing over him. One of those moments that changes everything in an instant....sad for all sides.
That's a crazy business...I hesitate to say anything because when I say something about the kid raging out of his car I'm trashing him...and Stewart has no business pissing around at those tracks unless it's for appearance things...so all around it's a friggin tragedy. I was in the military flying business and I used to always tell my guys "we're in a dangerous business...don't up the percentage by doing stupid things"
The kid was stupid for getting out of his car. He's 20 yrs old. It was immature.
Tony Stewart is 43 years old and should know better about his actions. It's like working in the bar business. When you're younger and a guy screws with you, you do stupid things and go after the other guy. When you're older, you let it go because....."I don't want to end up in the hospital"....."I don't want to go to jail if I screw this guy up"....."A lawyer is going to cost a fortune".....
